You can find the "lone star" on just about anything in Texas. From barns to beer cans to belt buckles to the helmets of an NFL team, Texans are awfully proud of that thing.
So it was probably only a matter of time until it turned up on a college football uniform, too.
Texas Tech will unveil commemorative "Lone Star Pride" uniforms for their game against Texas this week. They're made by Under Armor, which earlier this year found a way to wrap the complex state flag of Maryland onto the Terrapins' helmets, so getting a lone star on each shoulder was a relatively easy trick to pull. There will also be lone stars on the Red Raiders' socks.
The timing is appropriate for a "Lone Star Pride" uniform, and not just because the Red Raiders are facing Texas, the state's flagship institution. The winner of Saturday's game will be well-positioned for a berth in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas or Alamo Bowl in San Antonio.
