Earlier today, Nick Cafardo, national baseball writer for the Boston Globe, tweeted that the MLBPA will speak with major league baseball on behalf of the New York Mets regarding the Michael Bourn situation: #bbpBox_301000260812161025 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_301000260812161025 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } MLBPA executive counsel David Prouty said he has been in talks with MLB through the mets on the Michael Bourn saga. about 4 hours ago via Mobile Web (M5)ReplyRetweetFavorite @nickcafardo Nick Cafardo Which is good news considering Andy Martino of the Daily News tweeted yesterday, the Mets are hopeful they can sign Bourn, but there has been “no discussions” between the league and MLBPA: #bbpBox_300643809740599297 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_300643809740599297 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Latest on Bourn: Mets still hopeful of signing, but I’m told there are currently “no discussions” bt union and league about draft pick issue February 10, 2013 11:34 am via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite @MartinoNYDN Andy Martino Meanwhile, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, one source described the level of conversation as ”Inquiring/position nature at this point in time.”  According to Rubin: Photo by Michael G. Baron Another source familiar with the dialogue said it had been superficial — not the type of substantive conversation that would take place prior to some type of grievance procedure. Sources have indicated any conversations would not be substantive until the Mets and Bourn had progressed to the point where a deal with the free agent was within reach.  It is obvious the Mets would like to sign Bourn without forfeiting the 11th overall pick. Honestly, they should be interested in Bourn.  They need a lead off hitter and he would be their best outfielder. And, I believe most of us would agree the Mets should bring Bourn in on a 3 or 4-year deal with club options, so long as they do not forfeit their first-round pick. Honestly, the Bourn saga is becoming tiresome. I’ll be happy when this ends — hopefully with Bourn doning the blue and orange — and discussion will turn to players such as Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler and Travis d’Arnaud. Especially when I read tweets like this on the first day pitchers and catchers are supposed to report: #bbpBox_301016325457850368 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_301016325457850368 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Collins was very happy this morning to have 55 players in camp already, including 20 position players a week early about 3 hours ago via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite @MartinoNYDN Andy Martino
