The Curious Case Of Jackson.

Posted November 05, 2013

The much maligned little receiver of the Eagles is scheduled to make over 10 million next season. I'm sure if I asked most of you if he's worth it the majority would say no way and get him outta here! Here's the irony though. You would be wanting to get rid of the receiver leading the NFC in receiving yards and a guy who is second only to A.J. Green in the NFL. I'm sure many of you would state you would rather have Dez Bryant even though Jackson has only two less touchdowns, one less reception, and over 100 more receiving yards than him. Jackson is tied with Torrie Smith of the Ravens for the most plays of 20 yards or more and is 8th in receiving yards per game. Jackson is tied for 4th in 1st down receptions and he's doing all of this with no real other receiving option (which means he's getting doubled all the time) and in 9 games has played with three different quarterbacks. Jackson is on pace to have the best season of his career, and nobody is even noticing. If Jackson stays healthy he could end up with over 90 receptions, over 1400 yards, and at least 10 touchdowns. That my friends are numbers worth 10 mil a year. Thankfully Chip Kelly has finally smartened up and used Jackson on returns again. Maybe he hasn't been as flash this season (most likely due to the lack of punt returns and overall whining) but he's definitely been highly effective. So do you all still think he should be gone next season?

  • It's cause he can have 3 catches for 35 yards for most of the game and then 1 for 60 and a td, so his final numbers are 4 for 95 and a td. That's a good day for most WRs. But here in philly we want that 1 for 60 and a td every play. It seems the coaches do as well. At times Kelly gets just as in love with sending desean deep as Reid was, forgetting he can run slants posts curls out routes to gain 5-15 yards at a time. I'm very interested to see how it plays out if we have maclin next year.
  • That's the same as McCoy and Barry Sanders. I think it has more to do with Jackson's quarterbacks than to his own abilities. There were some inaccurate QBs in his past with the team.
  • I think jackson is worth every penny. They just need to surround him with additional talent. I just think he hurts the run game more because he isnt physical enough. He tries but lets face it he is a shrimp. I think Jerry Rice took an intereswt in Jackson. That tells me something. But with the right combinations on the field the sky is the limit for Jackson. I think most experts believe he has a ton of natural ability.
  • thanks for the kind words easy....
  • Dez Bryant, Brandon Marshall & Calvin Johnson are some of the best receivers in the game. This season Djax might have similar numbers to those guys, but over his career he hasn't done it.

When it's 3rd and goal on the 4 yard line we don't have Dez Bryant to throw the fade to. On 2nd and 2 and we throw a screen to Djax he will run out of bounds. Dez Bryant will use his body to get the first down.

Stats don't make the player. Djax is a great small player, but he is no elite receiver.
  • He has limitations in doing the things that the bigger receivers can do. Thats true. But he also can do things they cant. So in a way it equals out. He is an elite player. The Eagles would be sitting at the bottom without him.
  • Don't forget the elite play of his quarterback too. Thanks to his solid play this team is starting to make some noise.
  • We simply can't ignore the fact that with Foles and Kelly running this offense Jackson doesn't seem like the one trick pony anymore and Riley Cooper has come off the scrap heap.
  • Guys are catching and running with the ball. He's leading receivers to spots and throwing it before they make the cuts. He's doing some high quality QB stuff right now and most of all he's trusting his guys to go and get it for him.
