THE EAGLES 2014 OPENING DAY QB? (WITH SOME LUCK)

Posted July 09, 2013

JUST for a minute lets suppose that both Michael Vick, and Nick  Foles suck this year.

That means the Eagles would still need a QB next year right?

Some say Matt Barkley should get the nod. Some say Johnny Football.

How about Josh Freeman?

He'd be young (26).

He's mobile (4.7 ypc career).

His career accuracy is around 59% in Tampa's "Can You Really Call This A System" offense.

He's been durable, missing only 1 game in the last 3 seasons.

If the Buccaneers lift the gate, I can't say I'd be hurt to see either one of my teams make a play for him. He's already proven he can be an NFL QB, and a bright spot on one of the most schizo franchises in all of sports. the only thing against him is that he's not his coach's type of guy:  http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/22183311/bucs-showing-mysterious-lack-of-faith-in-their-qb-josh-freeman

Their loss hopefully! He'd have the skills to run the Spread. Young, durable... If Tampax Bay is dumb enough, this would be my answer for next year.

  • Thanks but no thanks.
  • I second GG. No need to replace suck with suck.
  • Freeman is good idk why people don't see it. His coach hasn't liked him but I seen him on espn or nfl network last week praising him and be excited for him so idk if he will be available.

If not him I think top guy in the draft next year will be bridgewater but I haven't watched anything on him or any other college QB. I'm not sold on Johnny football making itin the pros. And aj mccarron won't make it.

Idk how foles or Barkley fit into it if we go with Vick this year. Same goes for Vick of we go foles so have to wait and see how that plays out sadly. Only way to know about foles is to play him though. So we shall see
  • I haven't heard anyone IN football have a bad word to say about Freeman. He tossed 22 picks 2 years ago, but again, what system does he play in? With what coaching? I think the guy has overachieved so far given what he's had to work with. I'd LOVE to see what he can do in a REAL NFL system.
  • I wouldnt have a problem if the guy gets in shape. He seems physically & mentally lazy but has some raw talent. I dont like Johnny Football. Hes overrated. And he parties too much.
  • According to anything I've read about him, the guy is a gym rat.

  • Spots that wont work as some other team would be willing to give him a long term deal. Also let's say if he bounces back and has a great season, then the Bucs will either resign him or franchise him. In any case he's too inconsistent to invest in. If the Eagles want a franchise quarterback they will either need to draft one or develop one.

  • I just thought I'd throw it out there for discussion and to widen the scope a little.

There's a lot of focus right now on a QB many don't like, a 3rd rounder who doesn't exactly wow, and a 4th rounder who in most years wouldn't even be part of a meaningful discussion.

There's even some focus on a bunch of college players. Considering the league's combined record for striking out on QB's drafted high, history shows there are no gimmes about whether a guy can hack the NFL and the life that comes with it.

Josh Freeman has already shown that he belongs in the league, and that he can hack life off the field *cough (Hernandez)* as well. Moreover, he has the exact skill set that could make him a good fit for Kelly's system.

Just wanted to point out EVERY option. (Hey! Option! Get it?)
  • Lets say we go the foles Barkley route this year and for the near future atleast. We still have other needs on the team, mostly DB in my opinion. I wasn't a big fan of the Cary Williams move from the jump and now that I see how much of a punk @ss b!0tch he is I'm even less of a fan. Fletcher I don't even know what to say but if he can be a solid number two than I'm happy but haven't heard anything about him since he got hear soooo idk. Boykins is eehh and poyer should push for the start in the slot, maybe at safety? Seems the job is Phillips to lose on the other side but we r all sure he's gonna get hurt so not much there.

I say all that to say this draft Bradley roby if we cannot get bridgewater Boyd or clowney.

Supposedly he runs a 4.3 but it isn't confirmed. He likes to hit but isn't the biggest guy. Espn has him at 5-11 192LBS. Cary Williams is at 6-1 but only 190LBS. Fletcher at 6-0 200. Does he fit what Kelly wants? Seems weight wise he does but might be a little short. I would say his football ability outweighs his lack of height. People say he could have been the second corner off the board this year and should be first to go in 2014. If we win those 6 to 9 games people think we r gonna we should be in position to nab him around 10-15.
  • I couldn't view the link you have posted, but this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUGaATkrpCQ will work if others want to see it.

If he fits Kelly's system then so be it, but I'm an old school guy who thinks CB's should either be ballhawks, or prevent completions. This guy makes a LOT of post completion tackles, and plays behind the receiver a lot.
