Normally when a pitcher throws a complete game on the road, it means they won. However, Mets fans know better than to think they are anything close to normal. One night after the Mets continued the downward spiral of humanity by celebrating a game they didn’t deserve to win, Karma reared her ugly head and forced some the Mets’ own medicine down their throat. Dillon Gee had perhaps his best outing as a New York Met tonight against the Atlanta Braves. After a four hour rain delay, Gee pitched 8 scoreless innings to give the Mets a chance to upset the first-place Braves. Not only was Gee dealing, but he also singled in John Buck for the Mets’ only run. Gee was due to bat in the top half of the 9th, forcing Terry Collins to do something he doesn’t do very well — make a decision. Collins stuck with Gee and let him strike out to end the first half of the inning. Can’t knock Collins for rewarding a guy who had allowed just three hits and one walk over 8 innings to one of the best offenses ...

Mets Lose A 2-1 Heartbreaker After A Braves Two-Run Blast In The Ninth

What a punch in the gut… After a rain delay of three hours and 43 minutes, Dillon Gee took the mound and fired eight shutout innings against the Braves as the Mets took a 1-0 lead heading into the ninth. But it was all for naught as first baseman Freddie Freeman crushed a two-run, walk-off homer to give the Braves a dramatic 2-1 win to take the first game of the five game series...

Game Preview: Mets @ Braves

The Mets start a four game set with the Braves tonight with the key day being the double-header tomorrow that is also Harvey/Wheeler Day but before we can get to that, we have a Dillon Gee game. Yesterday the Mets somehow won. At points yesterday the defense was so poor that it doesn’t even qualify under the word defense. Anyway Byrd hit a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the...

Braves 2, Mets 1

The Atlanta Braves waited a long time to get going. Finally, at 1:22 a.m., Freddie Freeman gave them a most improbable victory. Freeman hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning to ruin a brilliant performance by Dillon Gee, leading the Braves past the Mets 2-1 Monday night in a game that was delayed nearly four hours by rain. Gee (5-7) drove in New York's lone run and totally...

A look at Terry Collins and the eighth inning of G1 Tuesday

Tuesday was a great day for the Mets. A doubleheader sweep over the hated Braves would be enough to make that statement true, but the fact that it came at Turner Field hours after an excruciating loss on a walk-off HR in the bottom of the ninth inning made it all the better. And on top of that the Mets saw their two young aces – Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler – absolutely dominate...

Terry Collins Questions Resolve Of Mets

There are roughly six weeks left of relevance in the season for the New York Mets. That takes into consideration the All-Star Game – Citi Field’s one chance to shine in the national spotlight – and past the trade deadline when we learn what Mets are rescued from the dark abyss of losing and brought into the shining light of a pennant race. In praising Jon Niese’s spotty,...

NBC's Bob Costas bashes Mets’ victory celebration over Cubs (Video)

Check out the video. NBC sportscaster Bob Costas referred to the New York Mets 4-3 victory celebration over the Chicago Cubs as an “indication of the ongoing decline of Western Civilization.”

Harvey Has Been Mortal Late in Games

Terry Collins watched on from the dugout as Matt Harvey dominantly no-hit the Atlanta Braves for six innings on Tuesday afternoon. The Dark Knight of Gotham ended the game with a career-high 13 strikeouts on 116 pitches, but Collins almost mismanaged the game out of the Mets’ hands. While Harvey has indisputably been among the best pitchers in baseball by every conceivable metric...

At least the Mets had the decency to lose in nine innings after a four hour rain delay. So much for your imaginary concept of "momentum". I don't suppose there's a chance that the Braves could acquire Carlos Marmol in the next few minutes? The Mets could now go 0-3 in a span of 24 hours thanks to Freddie Freeman's walk-off dinger off Dillon Gee...

Ojeda Says Six-Man Rotation Would Be Disastrous, SNY Ratings On Life Support

Wheeler’s debut should help SNY’s sagging ratings according to Neil Best of Newsday who writes: SNY is on pace for the lowest Mets ratings in its eight-season history, stuck with a team out of contention earlier than any other in that span, and suddenly has been gifted with a marquee attraction. “I think this team, fan base, organization, and maybe a little bit the announcers...

Angst: Part One

Certain people on this planet don't deserve Matt Harvey. Terry Collins is shaping up to be one of those people. Harvey was incredible through six innings for the Mets during Game 1 of today's doubleheader against Atlanta. Harvey's first hit was in the seventh when Jason Heyward chopped a ball towards first and Harvey snared it and flipped to first. Problem was that...
