THE `BURBS - Solomon Jones will become the 13th player under contract for the Pacers once he signs his two-year deal Thursday. Team president Larry Bird said earlier this week that they plan to have 14 players under contract going into the season. They want to keep the last roster spot available in case they need to sign a player down the road. Who the 14th player will be is still anybody's guess because the blue and gold are still trying to work out a sign-and-trade deal with Boston for Marquis Daniels. The Pacers are also looking at other options in case they can't pull a deal off with Boston. I've noticed in the last couple of blog entries that some of you have come out swinging at Bird over the moves he's made this summer. I have to say, I like what Bird and general manager David Morway have done. Am I saying the Pacers are suddenly contenders again? N-O. Do I think they're a playoff team? I'm not sure about that, either. I think they'll be one...
