REGARDING recent player incidents, I didn't want to mention the 'R' word, because I didn't want anybody to say that I was blaming Chip Kelly for any of this.

For the most part I put this behavior solely at the feet of the feet of the players, because they are grown men who know the difference between acceptable and unacceptable behavior.

On the other hand, I think Kelly being here is part of why this is happening. Like kids getting a new babysitter or teacher, the players are testing the limits of the new guy to see how much they can get away with. The lines were drawn clearly in the past. So much so, that even we fans new where and what they were. They have yet to be drawn here, and I think now is a PERFECT time to do it.

I'd start by saying publicly (if I were Kelly) that I hope LeSean McCoy understands just how lucky he is to have avoided any serious criminal charges and how much he stands to lose in the future if he doesn't wise up and avoid these situations. I'd continue by saying that the Philadelphia Eagles do not condone or look kindly on vandalization of any property, and that repeated behavior like what was evinced by Evan Mathis can be interpreted as a contract violation for conduct detrimental (it's a standard clause), leading to voiding of bonuses or worse. I'd finish by saying the that Tweets about alcohol and drug abuse may precipitate an immediate drug test, and that players with DeSean Jackson's level of visibility, stand to lose a lot in terms of endorsement deals, bonus money, and future negotiation leverage as a result of a suspension.

And YES, I'd use their names.

Once players knew where the line was, everyone could focus solely on football. But you hit it early, you hit it directly, and you hit it hard.
