Packers/Seahawks Week 3

Having an extra day this week to heal up was advantageous for both teams.

Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks should have wide receiver Charly Martin (Chest) and starting left tackle Russell Okung (Knee) back this week.

Last week Frank Omiyale filled in brilliantly for Okung, yet it’s always good to have your starting left tackle back in the game.

Both players (Martin and Okung) have been full participation in practice all week.

We all know Sidney Rice has trouble staying healthy, so giving him Saturday off should be of no concern.

I am willing to bet that we see Rice getting days off throughout the season, as Pete Carroll tries to avoid over taxing the fragile body of his most explosive receiver. Marshawn Lynchis on the injury list for the third consecutive week due to his back spasms, nevertheless, for the third consecutive week he’ll get the majority of the carries.

Charly Martin is no Doug Baldwin…

Zach Miller was listed as questionable last week due to his foot injury, this week he is listed as probable, so there is not reason to think he will miss the Monday Night Football game.

Last week Russell Okung was a game time decision and was unable to play.  This week Doug Baldwin is in the same position, after injuring his shoulder during Thursday’s practice.

Though Doug feels like he will be able to play, head coach Pete Carroll confirmed that Charly Martin will fill in as the slot receiver if Baldwin has to remain on the sidelines.

Charly Martin is no Doug Baldwin, however, when Charly has been given chances, he has delivered.  I hope that Baldwin can play, but if he cannot, I look forward to seeing what Martin does with the extended playing time.

Byron Maxwell is out with a hamstring injury suffered during last weeks win against the Cowboys.  The Seahawks will miss his presence on special teams more than anything.

Packers

Good news for the Packers, Greg Jennings will be assessed Monday morning but Packers’ Head Coach Mike McCarthy expects him to play.

The Packers do have concerns that fatigue could impact Jennings’ ability to finish the game.  Not a good sign when playing a big, tough, physical defense that wears teams down.

McCarthy also expects starting defensive end CJ Wilson to start despite his groin injury and questionable designation.

The oft injured cornerback, Davon House, is not expected to play.  His absence should not effect the Packers.  He has only managed to play in two games since he was drafted last year.

Backup middle linebacker Jamari Lattimore has been officially listed as out for the Monday night game.

2012 first round draft pick, Nick Perry, is expected to start the game, but don’t be surprised if he splits snaps with last years starter, Eric Walden, whom had nearly twice as many snaps as Perry did last week.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy expects Greg Jennings to play on Monday.

Josh Sitton is officially listed as probable, but has been a limited participant all week in practice.  If Sitton cannot play, Evan Dietrich-Smith will likely fill in for him.  You may remember Evan from the 2010 Seattle Seahawks roster, if not don’t worry.

Dietrich-Smith was one of about 8,000 players who John Schneider and Pete Carroll signed, then released during their first year together.  Of course I am exaggerating, but not by that much.

In any case, Even had no games played as a Seahawk.  That doesn’t mean Even isn’t famous in Seattle, most of us recognize him as the player who’s head was stomped in by Ndamukon Suh on Thanksgiving Day.

It looks like the game is setting up to be a defensive battle.  Will Seattle’s hard hitting, physical defense be enough to stop Green Bay’s high powered offense?

Time will tell, let’s just hope the officiating is better than last weeks Monday Night Football Game.
