The Twins might be forced to accept life with Samuel Deduno the way it is. He’s going to have runners on the base paths. There are going to be one or two (or four) hard-hit balls. Pitching coach Rick Anderson will get his workout in taking trips to the mound to recalibrate the gifted righthander. But it seems that, more often than not, Deduno will figure out a way to finish with a solid outing. Such was the case on Monday when Deduno appeared ready to step on a few land mines but somehow straightened himself out to help the Twins win 4-3. It wasn’t pretty, but enough to start the Twins’ seven-game road trip the right way. Clete Thomas drove in two runs with a double and his fourth homer of the season, then kept the Twins in front by robbing Chris Iannetta of a home run with two runners on in the eighth. Glen Perkins pitched the final 1⅓ innings, striking out Albert Pujols and Howie Kendrick to end the game, to pick up his 24th save. It was his first save of more than three outs...

Twins P K's batter while chewing on necklace

Your browser does not support iframes. Minnesota Twins pitcher Samuel Deduno threw a strikeout while chewing on his stars-and-stripes necklace during the seventh inning of Monday night's game in Anaheim. Deduno had his necklace in his mouth as he threw what announcers described as a "biting" curveball (get it?) for strike three against Los Angeles Angels batter J...

Aaron Hicks' golf game includes five holes-in-one

Hitting a hole-in-one is something every golfer dreams about, regardless of how unrealistic the dream may be for some. For Twins center fielder Aaron Hicks, that dream became a reality by the time he was 15. Five times, in fact. Yes, while Hicks turned out to be a pretty good baseball player and was taken 14th overall by the Twins in the 2008 draft, he was once very talented youth...

Mauers welcome twin girls into the world

Forget the royal baby. The royal twins are here. Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer and his wife, Maddie, welcomed twin girls early Wednesday morning. The Mauers, who were married last year, named their first children Emily and Maren. Mauer has become one of the most popular Twins players over the years, so news of his engagement was widely talked about in the Twin Cities. The hashtag...

Twins Monday: 33-year-old Doug Bernier gets first career hit

Doug Bernier spent 12 seasons toiling away in the minor leagues. He debuted briefly in the majors in 2008, but otherwise wondered if the long bus rides and the 1,054 games in the minors was worth it anymore. At 33 years old, Bernier still did not have a major league hit. He had just one start prior to Tuesday. Both of those changed Monday in Anaheim, as Bernier notched his first...

Twins Tuesday: Kyle Gibson turns in arguably best start to date

Through Kyle Gibson's first four major league starts, the Twins pitching prospect had a few good ones and a few bad ones. Add another good one to the list. Gibson went six innings and allowed just two runs Tuesday against the Angels as Minnesota won 10-3 in 10 innings. While Gibson didn't factor into the decision and remains 2-2 in his young career, he helped keep the Twins...

Twins place Mauer on paternity list

If there is something Joe Mauer knows well, it's twins. The Minnesota Twins catcher welcomed twin girls this week, the first children for he and wife Maddie. Mauer left the team before Tuesday night's game against the Angels to fly home to Minnesota. He made it in time for the birth of Emily and Maren early Wednesday, according to Twins director of baseball communications...

Joe Mauer and wife Maddie are now the proud parents of twin girls

Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer now is a daddy after his wife Maddie delivered twin girls on Wednesday. Mauer was pulled from the Twins’ lineup against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday and was placed on the MLB’s paternity list after learning that Maddie had gone into labor, so the proud papa made [...]The post Joe Mauer and wife Maddie are now the proud parents...

Trevor Plouffe, Joe Mauer look to get Twins back on track

Joe Blanton hasn't been shy about his struggles this season, and his explosion in the dugout after his latest dismal performance proved he won't be able to endure many more. He takes the mound again Monday night as the Los Angeles Angels look to win a sixth straight home meeting with the Minnesota Twins. Blanton signed a two-year, 15 million deal in the offseason and was...

Justin Morneau scored a critical run during the Minnesota Twins-Los Angeles Angels game on Tuesday with an incredible slide into home. The Twins first baseman singled with one out in the eighth and then tried to score from first on a double to right-center by Ryan Doumit. Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick caught the relay [...]

Tony Davis is having a standout season for the Dunedin Blue Jays

Florida Gators, 12th round pick of the Minnesota Twins, standout relief pitcher for the Quebec Capitales, and now an All-Star for the Dunedin Blue Jays. It's not your conventional route, but Tony Davis is one of literally hundreds of professional players that continue to work 365 days a year hoping to get that call saying they have been promoted to the Major Leagues. His...

New Britain Rock Cats wear Santa Claus jerseys for ‘Christmas in July’

The New Britain Rock Cats, the Class AA affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, held a promotion on Monday night called “Christmas in July.” Since you can’t possibly have Christmas without Santa Claus, the team threw on some fantastic Santa uniforms for a game against the Portland Sea Dawgs. Nothing intimidates a hitter quite like facing [...]

Twins 10, Angels 3(10)

Chris Herrmann, making an emergency start behind the plate for expectant father Joe Mauer, hit his first career grand slam in a seven-run 10th inning that sent the Minnesota Twins past the Los Angeles Angels 10-3 on Tuesday night. Ryan Doumit snapped a 3-all tie in the 10th with an RBI double against Angels closer Ernesto Frieri (0-2). Herrmann followed a one-out intentional walk...

After blowing lead, Twins use seven-run 10th to beat Angels

It began as your normal Major League Baseball game. Kyle Gibson was in the middle of this rookie baptism. Tommy Hunter was coming off the disabled list. Then things stopped making sense. Like Twins closer Glen Perkins blowing a save and ending a run of 19⅓ scoreless innings. Like Angels closer Ernesto Frieri not just flopping, but flopping fantastically. Like Clete Thomas being...
