Found February 23, 2013 on Redlegs Review:
by: Dan Howard Staff Writer I have an unusual hobby. I’ve been keeping journals of Cincinnati Reds games since 1991. It started when my brother-in-law gave me a weekly planner and I got an idea to hand write the 1991 Reds schedule in it, and as they say, the rest is history. I now have a nice collection of 22 heavily used weekly planners in my archives (an old shoebox). It seems that top 10 lists are all the rage these days. Everywhere you look there’s a top 10 list somewhere. Top 10 baseball players of today, top 10 World Series, top 10 Super Bowl games, top 10 bubble gum blowers, etc. I got sucked into the vortex of top 10 lists and I came up with my own, but with a twist (pun intended). In honor of Great American Ballpark’s 10th anniversary, I’ve come up with, in my opinion, the best 25 Reds wins since GABP opened in 2003. The research for this list was exhausting. I examined over 800 games, narrowing the initial list to 77. From those, I chose the 25 based on the event...

Talking with Cincinnati Reds third base prospect Travis ‘Moose’ Mattair

A few weeks ago I was able to talk with Cincinnati Reds third base prospect Travis ‘Moose’ Mattair. He had a real breakout season in 2012 and hopes to build upon that for 2013. You can follow him on twitter @mooser3226 RML: Since being drafted in 2007 you have seen two organizations and gone on to play college basketball. Has that journey helped your career? Travis Mattair: It...

Checking in with Shin-Soo Choo

The Spring Training season has started, and Shin-Soo Choo is gaining confidence playing center field for the Cincinnati Reds. “But everyday I feel better with practice,” he said. “There’s still work to do. But I feel more confident.” Granted, the former right fielder has only played a little bit, and exhibition baseball is nothing like when the games count, but it’s good...

First Reds lineup of 2013!

Choo CF Phillips 2B Votto 1B Ludwick LF Bruce RF Frazier 3B Cozart SS Hanigan C Olivo DH Cingrani P It's just spring training, but it's still nice to see a lineup and this one is the first one of the year. It looks pretty much like what the Opening Day lineup will be, obviously minus the DH and with Cueto by the "P" instead of Cingrani...

Heisey proving solid as Reds fourth outfielder

GOODYEAR, Ariz. A fan asked an interesting question about Cincinnati Reds outfielder Chris Heisey: If he played on another team would he be an everyday player? Most likely, depending upon the team, the answer would be in the affirmative because the 28-year-old resident of Mechanicsburg, Pa., certainly has the ability and the drive and the confidence. He lives in the right town because...

Spring Training game 1: Reds 10, Indians 11

Todd Frazier singles in the first inning, knocking in Joey Votto. The Cincinnati Reds started off the 2013 Spring Training season with a game against the Cleveland Indians. Although they both share Goodyear Ball Park, the Reds played the visitors this time. The game was an offensive show, with a combined 21 runs and 27 hits, which isn’t uncommon early in the Spring. For the Reds...

What kind of season can be expected from Zack Cozart? #Reds

Might the young shortstop experience a breakout year in 2013? He's not actually as young as you'd think. He'll turn 28 on August 12th during his second full year as the Reds starting shortstop. His 2012 was not spectacular, but he provided pretty good defense at the position. His .975 fielding percentage placed him ninth among MLB shortstops as he committed 14 errors...

Reds early season schedule ranked eighth by Buster Olney

So much about the success or failure of a team often has to do with scheduling -- playing the right teams, at the right time, at the right location. ESPN baseball guru Buster Olney knows this and that is why he recently broke down the early season schedules of each team in the National League. In case you are wondering, and I know that you are, the Reds landed in the middle-of...

Hamilton Makes the Switch

The all-time single-season minor league stolen base leader Billy Hamilton is taking a more deliberate approach to his first big league camp with Cincinnati, as he converts from a shortstop to a center fielder.

New Reds OF Shin-Soo Choo thankful to Tribe

GOODYEAR, AZ - The game is about people. Too often we forget that, obsessing over statistics, complaining about contracts, demanding trades and firings and better performances from our favorite clubs. Thats all part of baseball in the 21st century, all part of what makes the game great. But every so often, you get a reminder. You hear about something like outfielder Shin-Soo Choos...
