R. A. Dickey helped the Toronto Blue Jays to a 4-0 shut out victory over San Francisco. It was Dickey’s best game of the year and it wasn’t just his pitching that was outstanding either. Dickey opened the scoring by faking a bunt and then hitting a RBI double in the third inning. As for his pitching, he went 8.1 innings, gave up a hit, no earned runs, two walks and struck out five batters. This is the R.A. Dickey Toronto fans wanted to see when the Blue Jays signed him.
We also have to give some recognition to Maicer Izturis who played great defensively. Izturis made it hard for the Giants to get any base hits.
I have some news items involving Toronto.
Just before the first game against the Giants, Raji Davis was activated from the 15 day disabled list.
Melky Cabrera leads the American League in All-Star voting, however, it is possible Cabrera won’t be at the All-Star game.
You see, Major League Baseball is investigating a possible drug scandal involving 20 big name players and Cabrera happens to be on the list.
The league is investigating Anthony Bosch, founder of the Miami-area Biogenesis anti-aging clinic, for supplying performance-enhancing substances to Major League ball players. The league has indicated anyone caught faces a lengthy suspension.
This is exactly why I was not happy when the Blue Jays signed Cabrera. He was suspended 50 games for testing positive for testosterone last year and there’s a chance that he’ll be suspended again this year. The Jays have enough problems right now with injuries and a losing record. The team doesn’t need this looming over their heads.
I have an update on Jose Reyes. His sprained ankle is improving.
The Blue Jays have optioned Mickey Story to Triple A Buffalo.
The Jays kick off a three game series against the Texas Rangers tomorrow night.
