A new collective bargaining agreement wasn't going to be reached on Thursday. And, after talks adjourned beyond the five-hour mark, commissioner Gary Bettman expressed just how much ground still needed to be covered.
There's good news, though -- plenty of it. In just two weeks, the NHL's offered to absorb all of the make-whole provision, guaranteeing...

President Obama couldn't balance the disparity between both parties, still has a lot of people teed off, and the popular vote told us they really didn't like what he's been doing. Oh, wait. That's Gary Bettman.
The stock market reacted this morning to the wonderful election news by plummeting 300 points. Lets hope the NHL talks don't plummet into New York...

A fourth straight day of NHL labor talks failed to bring the league and its locked-out players any closer to a deal that would put hockey back on the ice and save the season.
In fact, the gap between the fighting factions might have gotten even wider on a failed Friday.
After three consecutive seemingly positive days of talks this week, discussions turned a bit sour when negotiations...
from Scott Burnside of ESPN,
Neither NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman nor NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr has distinguished himself thus far in terms of charting a course to a successful resolution to the current lockout of the NHL’s players.
Strategies on both sides have been at best curious and at worst deeply flawed.
Another day, another marathon bargaining meeting.
The owners and players met Thursday for approximately five hours. The meeting ended at approximately 6 p.m.
The two groups have agreed to meet again Friday.
Seven hours on talks on Tuesday. Six hours on Wednesday. Eighteen hours of discussions this week. More to come.
After today's session, Gary Bettman said that...
The best that can be said about the ongoing NHL labor negotiations is that they are still going, and will continue for at least a fourth straight day.
The league and the locked-out players' association got back together Thursday and accomplished enough over five-plus hours to make plans to meet again Friday.
''I am not going to discuss the negotiations or the substance...

Well yesterday sure was interesting. The NHL and NHLPA met at an undisclosed location at 3pm EST, and didn’t emerge until 10:15pm. For those keeping track that’s seven hours of negotiating in one day, which is about as much time spent as all other days combined. Fascinating. It’s amazing what pressure can do.
And make no mistake, there is now pressure on the NHL to get something...
If you've never been to an NHL game, you're missing out on a good time.
It's fun. Hell, it's real fun.
Watching on TV is OK. The big games and the playoffs are always good, but something about being in an NHL rink on a Saturday night is electric.
And thanks to the boneheads that run the NHL, this is the second time in 5 years that the...
So if you can't find it in your heart to bring back the game for the sake of the millions worldwide who will throw money into your coffers, consider doing it for the real fans. The ones who remember that Tim Horton was more than a donut shop or the ones who actually saw Gordie Howe get a Godrie Howe hat trick.
These are the fans who have brought your game to the next generation...
