The Cleveland Indians have fired their manager with a few games left.
Manager Manny Acta was let go with six games left on the season. In August, the team had a miserable month, and they felt they couldn’t wait to keep him around for a few more days.
“That month just crushed our hopes,” said Acta.
Last month, they were just 5-24 in the 29 games. It was the worst month in the team’s 112-year history of the team.
Acta was hired by the Indians in 2009 after working two seasons as the manager of the Washington Nationals. He tried everything he could during August’s meltdown, but it didn’t work.
The slump made the team go from playoff contention to being in last place in the American League Central Division.
