Fox Sports North:
Minnesota Twins pitcher Samuel Deduno unleashed his secret weapon during Monday's win over the Angels: his necklace.
No, it had nothing to do with wearing the braided Phiten titanium necklace around his neck. Deduno instead opted to chew it while pitching -- and it worked.
With one out in the seventh inning and a runner on third, Deduno put the necklace in his mouth and fired a 1-2 pitch to Angels left fielder J.B. Shuck. Deduno's curveball -- or perhaps it was the necklace -- fooled Shuck, who swung and missed at the pitch for the second out. It was one of five strikeouts for Deduno, who pitched seven innings and got the win in the Twins' 4-3 victory.
Deduno also may have started a trend. Many players wear similar necklaces, but Deduno appears to be the first to eat it while pitching.

Your browser does not support iframes. Minnesota Twins pitcher Samuel Deduno threw a strikeout while chewing on his stars-and-stripes necklace during the seventh inning of Monday night's game in Anaheim. Deduno had his necklace in his mouth as he threw what announcers described as a "biting" curveball (get it?) for strike three against Los Angeles Angels batter J...
Hitting a hole-in-one is something every golfer dreams about, regardless of how unrealistic the dream may be for some.
For Twins center fielder Aaron Hicks, that dream became a reality by the time he was 15. Five times, in fact.
Yes, while Hicks turned out to be a pretty good baseball player and was taken 14th overall by the Twins in the 2008 draft, he was once very talented youth...
Forget the royal baby. The royal twins are here.
Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer and his wife, Maddie, welcomed twin girls early Wednesday morning. The Mauers, who were married last year, named their first children Emily and Maren.
Mauer has become one of the most popular Twins players over the years, so news of his engagement was widely talked about in the Twin Cities. The hashtag...
Doug Bernier spent 12 seasons toiling away in the minor leagues. He debuted briefly in the majors in 2008, but otherwise wondered if the long bus rides and the 1,054 games in the minors was worth it anymore.
At 33 years old, Bernier still did not have a major league hit. He had just one start prior to Tuesday.
Both of those changed Monday in Anaheim, as Bernier notched his first...
Through Kyle Gibson's first four major league starts, the Twins pitching prospect had a few good ones and a few bad ones.
Add another good one to the list. Gibson went six innings and allowed just two runs Tuesday against the Angels as Minnesota won 10-3 in 10 innings. While Gibson didn't factor into the decision and remains 2-2 in his young career, he helped keep the Twins...
If there is something Joe Mauer knows well, it's twins.
The Minnesota Twins catcher welcomed twin girls this week, the first children for he and wife Maddie.
Mauer left the team before Tuesday night's game against the Angels to fly home to Minnesota. He made it in time for the birth of Emily and Maren early Wednesday, according to Twins director of baseball communications...
After tallying just two hits through eight innings, the Minnesota Twins seemed unlikely to do much against the Angels and starter Jered Weaver in Wednesday's 1-0 loss in the series finale. But after Weaver gave way to closer Ernesto Frieri in the ninth, Minnesota had new life when Frieri walked Clete Thomas and hit Doug Bernier to open the ninth.
Just when it looked like the...
If this isn't an example of a minor league baseball promotion than I don't know what it is.The Double-A affiliate for the Minnesota Twins, the New Britain RockCats, hosted "Christmas in July Night" on Monday.Players donned Santa-suit uniforms with the words "HO HO HO" on the back while the first 1,000 fans received winter scarves.Woo hoo!Via MLB Cut4
Florida Gators, 12th round pick of the Minnesota Twins, standout relief pitcher for the Quebec Capitales, and now an All-Star for the Dunedin Blue Jays. It's not your conventional route, but Tony Davis is one of literally hundreds of professional players that continue to work 365 days a year hoping to get that call saying they have been promoted to the Major Leagues. His...
Justin Morneau scored a critical run during the Minnesota Twins-Los Angeles Angels game on Tuesday with an incredible slide into home. The Twins first baseman singled with one out in the eighth and then tried to score from first on a double to right-center by Ryan Doumit. Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick caught the relay [...]
The New Britain Rock Cats, the Class AA affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, held a promotion on Monday night called “Christmas in July.” Since you can’t possibly have Christmas without Santa Claus, the team threw on some fantastic Santa uniforms for a game against the Portland Sea Dawgs. Nothing intimidates a hitter quite like facing [...]
Chris Herrmann, making an emergency start behind the plate for expectant father Joe Mauer, hit his first career grand slam in a seven-run 10th inning that sent the Minnesota Twins past the Los Angeles Angels 10-3 on Tuesday night.
Ryan Doumit snapped a 3-all tie in the 10th with an RBI double against Angels closer Ernesto Frieri (0-2). Herrmann followed a one-out intentional walk...
It began as your normal Major League Baseball game. Kyle Gibson was in the middle of this rookie baptism. Tommy Hunter was coming off the disabled list. Then things stopped making sense.
Like Twins closer Glen Perkins blowing a save and ending a run of 19⅓ scoreless innings.
Like Angels closer Ernesto Frieri not just flopping, but flopping fantastically.
Like Clete Thomas being...
After watching their longest winning streak of the season come to an end, the Seattle Mariners will try to bounce back against the Minnesota Twins.
Both teams could again be missing important pieces in Thursday night's series opener.
Mariners manager Eric Wedge remains out and Twins All-Star Joe Mauer is uncertain to be available when these clubs play the first of four at Safeco...
After losing two of three against the Minnesota Twins, the Halos travel up north to face the Oakland Athletics. Sitting among the bottom of the AL West, do the Angels need to sweep the division leaders?
It seems likes fans can never figure out if they’re giving up or keeping faith; sometimes it seems to be true on the field as well. A four game set in Oakland could put the Angels...
