Found August 20, 2013 on Fox Sports:
The Minnesota Twins have recalled right-handed reliever Michael Tonkin from Triple-A Rochester. The move was made before Tuesday's game in Detroit, where the Twins began a three-game series with the Tigers. Tonkin took the roster spot opened by the demotion of starting pitcher Kyle Gibson to Triple-A. Tonkin appeared in one game for the Twins on July 11, recording four outs without allowing a run before being sent back to Rochester. Since then, he had six saves in 12 games with a 3.95 ERA and a .216 opponent batting average. With Gibson out, the Twins must fill a spot in the rotation for Saturday. Manager Ron Gardenhire said after Gibson was sent down on Monday that long reliever Anthony Swarzak is a candidate.

Twins' Chris Colabello doing what he can to be serviceable OF

When Twins outfielder Oswaldo Arcia needed a translator to help with an interview earlier this month, he didn't turn to Bobby Cuellar, Minnesota's bullpen coach who is fluent in both Spanish and English. The duty fell to Chris Colabello. As it turns out, Colabello is trilingual. The Twins rookie is fluent in English and Italian and is "close" to being fluent in...

Twins place Joe Mauer on seven-day concussion DL

Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony is becoming a big fan of Major League Baseball's seven-day concussion list. The team placed franchise-face Joe Mauer on it Tuesday a week after fellow catcher Ryan Doumit spent a week out of the lineup in a similar situation. Mauer took multiple foul balls off his mask in Monday's loss to the Mets and was scratched from the lineup...

Brian Duensing improving his 'mediocre' season

MINNEAPOLIS -- Sitting with his head buried in his Target Field clubhouse locker, a framed 4x6 of his 1-year-old daughter, McKenna, watching over his nonchalant pregame routine of iPad chicanery, Brian Duensing suddenly received an open-palmed slap to the back of the neck. The 30-year-old Twins reliever swiveled his chair slightly to the left -- his pitching arm side -- just enough...

Twins' Mauer scratched from game

Minnesota Twins first baseman Joe Mauer was scratched from the lineup against the Detroit Tigers because he experienced dizziness Tuesday night in batting practice. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said earlier in the day that Mauer was probably not going to catch during the three-game series in Detroit, adding he planned to play him as a first baseman or designated hitter. Mauer was...

Joe Mauer placed on concussion disabled list

Joe Mauer the Twins' franchise player was placed on baseball's seven-day concussion list Tuesday night. He had been scratched from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers after experiencing dizziness during batting practice. Mauer originally was set to play first base one day after taking a series of foul balls off his catcher's mask during a makeup game...

First Pitch: The Conflicting Reports on Justin Morneau

Earlier tonight I started getting “Morneau to the Pirates?” tweets. I had no idea where they were coming from, since none of my other Twitter columns were mentioning Morneau. I did a search and found that Charley Walters of the Pioneer Press had this opinion on Morneau. Pittsburgh Pirates still seem the best bet if the Twins trade Justin Morneau before Aug. 31. — Charley Walters...

Twins Monday: Kyle Gibson says he understands demotion

MINNEAPOLIS -- What's almost certainly Kyle Gibson's last stroll off the Target Field pitcher's mound this season didn't end at the home dugout. Rather than watch all the latter stages of a 6-1, interleague loss he helped precipitate, the Twins rookie shuffled to the team's video room after being chased in the fourth inning. There, he sat through a painful self...

Late-game miscues cost Twins in setback at Detroit

A singular slip. In so many Twins setbacks this season, that's all it's taken. A wave of uncharacteristic miscues Wednesday at Comerica Park put Minnesota's 7-1 loss at Detroit far out of reach, but one pitch on an otherwise stellar night from Kevin Correia had manager Ron Gardenhire shaking his head, again. After Brian Dozier's two-out, RBI single broke a scoreless...

Trevor Plouffe Makes Diving Catch at Third Base, Can’t Get Ball Out of Glove To Make Play (GIF)

Trevor Plouffe just had a case of the Mondays. The Twins third baseman couldn’t pull it together Monday afternoon against the Mets. Mets center fielder Juan Lagares knocked a grounder that looked like it might thread the needle between Plouffe and shortstop Omar Quintanilla, but Plouffe was able to make a diving catch and get his glove on it. The problem arose when Plouffe couldn’t...

Morneau expects to stay with Twins

Four-time All-Star Justin Morneau has cleared August trade waivers, making him a possible acquisition for clubs in search of offensive upgrades. But he told FOX Sports on Tuesday afternoon that he expects to remain with the Minnesota Twins past the Aug. 31 deadline to set postseason rosters. "I think there would have to be some kind of long-term injury to somebody on one of...

Twins top Tigers, 6-3

DETROIT (AP) -- Justin Morneau had a season high four hits, including a two-run homer and a two-run double, and Glen Perkins struck out Miguel Cabrera with two on for the final out to help the Minnesota Twins hold off the Detroit Tigers in a 6-3 win Tuesday night. Mike Pelfrey (5-10) gave up three runs and seven hits in 6 2-3 innings. Jared Burton got out of a two-on, one-out jam...

Game Preview: Mets @ Twins

The Mets finally finish a long, long road trip on the West Coast with a make up game in Minnesota today. Ok, so Minnesota isn’t on the West Coast, but it’s in a different time zone so whatever. Anyway, in case you forgot, at the start of the season the Mets rolled into snowy Minnesota and Colorado thus causing the hectic schedule they are experiencing now. In other news, d...
