New York Yankees right-hander Chien-Ming Wang was able to opt out of his minor league contract with the team yesterday. However, he elected not to do so, as he’s reportedly only interested in severing ties with the Yankees if he can find a starting role elsewhere. There are six teams that have been eyeing Wang, but the Minnesota Twins are not one of them, according to Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN. The #MNTwins are not one of the six teams with interest in Chien-Ming Wang. He can opt out of his minor league deal w/ the Yankees today. — Darren Wolfson (@DarrenWolfson) May 31, 2013 Twins arms are at or near the bottom of the league in nearly all pitching categories. The team has already demoted Opening-Day starter Vance Worley to the minors, while Kevin Correia is the only member of the team’s rotation with an ERA south of 4.50. While Wang decided not to opt out yesterday, he will have the ability to do so at the end of each month. As the season continues, we’ll see if interest in him picks up as injuries and ineffectiveness occur across starting rotations. It was reported yesterday that the Baltimore Orioles are one of the six teams that have been monitoring Wang. While he’s put up solid numbers in Triple-A so far this season, scouts have said that he’s not close to being the pitcher he was for the Yankees when he won 19 games. Yankees' Sabathia dominates Red Sox

CC Sabathia's fastball returned to the New York Yankees along with Mark Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis. Throwing at up to 94 mph after two months of decreased velocity, Sabathia matched his season high with 10 strikeouts while pitching into the eighth inning to lead New York over the Boston Red Sox 4-1 Friday night and stop the Yankees' season-high, five-game losing streak...

Photos: Major League Baseball rolls out July 4th caps

Major League baseball and its teams such as the New York Yankees have joined the rest of the sports community by going nuts over alternative uniforms. Their Memorial Day camouflage uniforms were a hot mess even if their hearts were in the right place. On July 4, the league will try again with a red, white and blue theme to celebrate our country’s independence. New Era unveiled...

Fan claims to be 111, can't prove age

A baseball fan who says he's 111 years old and was saluted by the New York Yankees on the field this weekend has no proof of his age. Bernando LaPallo chatted with Yankees star Derek Jeter before Saturday night's game against Boston. The Arizona resident playfully calls himself the Yankees' oldest fan. But a consultant with Guinness World Records who specializes in...

Sabathia Bounces Back; Pitches Well

CC Sabathia has been happy with the way he’s been pitching lately. His fastball command has been an issue over his last few starts and coming in, the big Yankee southpaw hadn’t won a game in over a month (April 27th vs Toronto). Friday night against the Red Sox, Sabathia delivered and ace like performance, allowing only one runs on six hits, while walking none and tying a season...

Yankees: Are you in a state of shock too?

Five Days Later, The Batting Dead: Run, everybody, the Yankee Apocalypse has begun

You passed out in the wild party, after Overbay's HR beat Tampa. You wake up in an empty clubhouse, the lockers and showers horribly smeared with chalk and pine tar.  Outside, on the field, a roving horde of Yankees seems to be feeding on something. You climb the dugout steps for a better look. My God, it's the carcass of Joe Girardi! One of them sees you. It's Vernon...

Last Night Was Rough and it's Not Gonna Get Easier

As much as I hate the Yankees, I have to give them their due. They shut us down last night. Ot more specifically, CC Sabathia shut us down. He was nothing short of brilliant last night. He is a legimate ace and he pitched like one last night. Trust me, it pains me a lot to type these words, but I give respect where it's due, and Sabathia earned my respect (at least for now)....

Memorable sports moment of the week – Lou Gehrig passes away from ALS

New York Yankees legend Lou Gehrig died 72 years ago this Sunday on June 2, 1941. As a member of the Major League Baseball All-Century Team, the 37-year-old Gehrig amassed 493 homers, 2,721 hits and 1,995 RBI in 2,130 consecutive games as a Yankee from 1925 through 1939. During “Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day” at Yankee Stadium on July 4, 1939, “The Iron Horse” delivered perhaps...

Four Real? Red Sox vs Yankees 5-31-13

Pete Lepak RedSoxLife Staff Writer Game 56: Yankees take it, 4-1 Well, it wasn't a game of many highlights, but singles and walks gave the Yankees a 4-1 victory. In a rematch from Opening Day, C.C. Sabathia beat Jon Lester by simply pitching better, and it was simple; Lester missed his spots and C.C. didn't. Sabathia went over seven innings and struck out ten. Hopefully...

Injuries Taking Center Stage But Trending in Opposite Directions for Red Sox, Yankees (Video)

The Red Sox and Yankees are both dealing with injury-related storylines as they meet in the Bronx this weekend, but New York is probably a little more optimistic about its situation than Boston will be. With Jacoby Ellsbury scratched for the Sox on the same night that Kevin Youkilis and Mark Teixeira return for the Bronx Bombers, it’s hard not to think the Yankees might be better...
