MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins announced Wednesday that they have signed first-round pick Kohl Stewart, the fourth overall pick in this month's Major League Baseball Draft.
According to Jim Callis of Baseball America, the Twins signed Stewart for 4,544,400, which was right around the slot value for the fourth pick.
Stewart, a right-handed pitcher from St. Piux X (Texas) High School, was the first prep player take in the draft. He was 5-1 with a 0.18 ERA in 40 innings this season, adding 59 strikeouts and 16 walks. While Stewart also had a scholarship to play football at Texas A&M, the Twins were confident that Stewart would choose baseball over football.
Minnesota also announced they've signed 22 additional draft picks, including six other draftees from the first 10 rounds. Among them is third-round pick Stuart Turner, a catcher from Ole Miss, and left-hander Stephen Gonsalves, the Twins' fourth-round pick out of Cathedral Catholic (Calif.) High School.
Also of note of the 23 players the Twins have signed is 30th-round pick Tanner Vavra, whose father, Joe, is Minnesota's third-base coach. Twenty-one of the Twins' first 25 picks have now signed, with the exception of second-round pick Ryan Eades out of LSU; fifth-round pick Aaron Slegers, a right-hander from Indiana University; eight-round pick Dustin DeMuth of Indiana; and 16th-round pick Brandon Bixler from Florida Gulf Coast University.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Kohl Stewart is a multi-sport athlete, and it turns out he's pretty good at both sports.
That's evident by the fact that the Texas prep pitcher was not only taken by the Minnesota Twins with the No. 4 overall pick in this month's Major League Baseball draft, but he also has a scholarship to play quarterback at Texas A&M. Many high schoolers would love...
Get that kid a uniform.
Paul Neshek, a ballboy for the Minnesota Twins, made the play of the day Thursday at Target Field, leaping out of his shoes to snare an Alexei Ramirez foul ball. Neshek didn’t exactly stick the landing, but he held onto the ball, gaining him a round of applause from fans along the third-base line.
His highlight-reel grab also impressed at least one major...
Tanner Vavra has heard the criticisms.
He would never be good enough to play college baseball, let alone professional baseball. And even if he did, he wouldn't be as good as his peers.
Even Vavra's own father had his doubts.
But earlier this month, when the Minnesota Twins took Vavra in the 30th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft, all those doubters were silenced...

The White Sox traveled to Minnesota on Tuesday, and continued on what appears to be yet another abysmal road trip for the southsiders. They have now dropped 13 of their last 15 road contests, and five of their last six. Once again, falling back to ten games below .500.
