A pair of athletes from South El Monte High School (Calif.) recently lost their fingers after a game of tug-of-war went awry.Seniors Edith Rodriguez and Pablo Ocegueda each had their fingers severed on Monday after the rope they were tugging on snapped. The game was being held as part of the school's spirit week festivities and was said to have involved about 40 students.Rodriguez, a member of the soccer squad, and Ocegueda, a member of the football team, were transported via ambulance to a trauma center immediately following the incident."They are both stable and the parents were by their bedside," said a hospital spokeswoman. "They were getting ready to be taken to the operating room to try to re-attach the fingers." It hasn't been revealed whether or not surgery was successful, nor how many fingers the two students initially lost.Via USA TODAY
