Bush League Chronicle:
The Los Angeles Lakers lost their fifth game in a row on Wednesday after falling, 108-105, in San Antonio to the Spurs.Near the midway point of the fourth quarter, the television broadcast went to a commercial break, as they normally do. But wait! No, they actually didn't go to a break, in fact, which led to this on-air exchange being caught between official Billy Kennedy, Greg Popovich, and Mark D'Antoni.D'Antoni had called a timeout, thinking it would be a 20-second one. However, he had previously used it in the fourth quarter, and was given a full TO instead. But the broadcast team never cut away from its coverage since they prepared for it to be a 20-second timeout. Kennedy was unaware of this fact, and did his due diligence in trying to stall. Little did he know his conversation was caught going out to a live audience. Hey, he gets points for trying, though, right?

Phil Jackson was in the running to get the Lakers job midseason, but he reportedly now says he has no intention of coaching again.

Lakers executive Jim Buss spoke with John Ireland and Ramona Shelburne on 710 ESPN radio Thursday where he primarily blamed injuries for the team’s 15-20 start. Here’s some of the transcript via Eric Pincus, Los Angeles Times.
Does the team need to make the playoffs to persuade Howard, who will be a free agent this summer, to stay long-term?
“If we make the playoffs, that means...
I was sincerely pulling for Robert Sacre to have a good game in his first start in place of the injured Dwight Howard… mostly because I wanted the Lakers to win, because that just would’ve been funny. Unfortunately, that’s not what happened. Sacre did score 10 points, but, as the Lakers got blown out 125-112, he grabbed just three rebounds in 27 minutes and played Washington...
Gross gross gross gross gross gross. Of course the only thing more gross than Metta World Peace using the same towel for his face that Steve Nash used to wipe his armpits is the Lakers’ record these days, but that’s besides the point. I’m guessing this isn’t what Dwight Howard had in mind when he said the Lakers needed to develop more chemistry.
H/T Busted Coverage
Steve Nash and Metta World Peace have only been teammates for a few games but already their bond is tight. Perhaps a bit too tight.
During the Lakers recent loss to the Rockets, Nash needed to dry off a bit which included his sweaty, damp, and probably smelly armpits. Not a problem, any athelete needs to dry off. It is understandable but what isn't is when same player hands...
Tuesday January 8 against the Houston Rockets Steve Nash became 5th all time on the assist list as well as being the only the 5th player all time to notch 10,000 assist. Nash over has a career average of 8.6 assist per game and had led the league in assist [...]
After their loss to the Hornets on Monday, Manu Ginobili was gracious enough to say that his San Antonio Spurs (27-10) must play better against the Lakers (15-19), a team, he says, "got heart" and "play hard", in order for them to keep their 10-game winning streak at home alive. Not sure which Lakers team and what season he's pertaining to, but it's good...
