While the Rams may hold all the cards right now for a potential blockbuster trade with the #2 overall pick in this year’s draft, the Vikings are right behind them both literally and figuratively, in that Minnesota would love nothing more than to be able to trade back with a team that covets a spot in the top five selections.

That said, it’s likely that any team with their hearts set on trading up to get one of the two top quarterbacks in this class (Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III) will go to St. Louis first, as they’d be able to guarantee one of those players would be available.

As such, Minnesota will be left with a dilemma of sorts, with no clear cut player ahead of everyone else on the board, and they’ll be forced to go one of two ways: offensive tackle or wide receiver in an effort to shore up their offense and give quarterback Christian Ponder a weapon to throw to or a blocker he can count on to protect his blindside.

Nothing will be set in stone until draft day, but for the time being, the signs are beginning to point towards the Vikings choosing to upgrade their offensive line by selecting USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil, according to Tom Pelissero of 1500AM ESPN Radio in the Twin Cities.

Kalil would immediately fill a major need for Minnesota, shoring up an offensive line that allowed 49 sacks last season and forced Ponder to scramble out of the pocket more often than not, limiting his ability to rack up passing yards and move the ball down field.

The Vikings finished the 2011 campaign ranked 28th overall in passing yards, and 19th overall in points scored.
