If you're a Virginia Tech fan who has a thing for the retro "TV" logo (at left), then you're soon going to be out of luck. The school is discontinuing use of the "TV" logo (which gets its name from the "T" in Tech inside the "V" for Virginia), and the old Fighting Gobbler on school merchandise.
“Virginia Tech has a long, long history of name confusion,” said
Larry Hincker, the associate vice president of University Relations. “To
us, this is just a prudent measure of brand protection and brand
enforcement so that we don’t cause continuing confusion in the market
Virginia Tech's decision isn't being taken well with Hokie nostalgia freaks. There's a Facebook page and petition floating around the Internet calling on the preservation of the logos.

With victories in their final two contests, the Hokies will qualify to play in a 20th consecutive bowl game. Even in a time where more than half of the FBS teams qualify for the postseason, the streak is still quite impressive.
But its nowhere close to a given.
