Veteran NASCAR Camping World Truck Series crew chief Mike Hillman Sr. is venturing into truck team ownership in 2012 with Hillman Racing. His new team announced on Thursday that it would begin competition with Ward Burton behind the wheel of its No. 27 truck in the NextEra 250 at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 24.
The race at Daytona will be the Camping World Truck Series debut for Burton, but the out-of-retirement driver isn’t new to Daytona. His five-career Sprint Cup Series wins include a Daytona 500 victory.
Hillman purchased trucks from his former employer, Germain Racing, to start his team. Germain Racing dissolved its Truck Series teams at the end of the 2011 season, while holding on to its Sprint Cup Series team.
