"Well, if he's inside the line and it affected his throw, he could've called the guy out at home. I didn't see that. Did he have to throw it outside the guy? He should've just thrown it right at him and hit the guy, then it's interference...he'd be out. He was still in fair territory when he threw it." (Davey Johnson, via postgame interview/MASN, 6/14/2013)
Indians 2, Nationals 1: Judging from Davey Johnson's starting lineup, he didn't want to win anyway. Regardless, if you can only manage two hits and one run, you probably don't deserve to win.
Still, Jason Kipnis clearly obstructed Adam LaRoche's throw in the 9th to end the game.

Anthony Rendon and his mullett save the day
Nationals 7, Indians 6: Blow a 5-0 lead with Jordan Zimmermann on the mound? No worries. Anthony Rendon's first career HR bails out the Nats in the 9th two pitches after Nick Swisher and Jason Kipnis miscommunicated on what should've been an easy out on a foul pop.
And here's The Shark pulling on The...
The Indians could soon have their closer back on the active roster. The Plain Dealer’s Jodie Valade was there as Tribe manager Terry Francona ran down the reports of currently injured players.
“He did real well,” Francona said. “He didn’t command great, which I don’t think is a surprise because he hadn’t thrown off the mound much.” He added that Perez likely will...
After throwing a bullpen session with no apparent issues or setbacks on Thursday afternoon, the Washington Nationals are confident (barring any discomfort over the weekend) that Stephen Strasburg will be able to return to the starting rotation on Sunday for a start against the Cleveland Indians.Strasburg threw 56 pitches in a simulated game on Tuesday, from which he disclosed that...
CLEVELAND -- Every loss is supposed to count as one, but some sure feel like they count a lot more.So it was Saturday night with the Indians, who saw an excellent comeback turn into a crushing 7-6 defeat to the Washington Nationals. It was so crushing that manager Terry Francona called what happened in the top of the ninth inning heartbreaking, a rare use of an emotional word by the...
The Cleveland Indians may be thrilled to return home.
Justin Masterson may be the most relieved.
Coming off a lackluster road trip, the Indians hope Masterson can continue his home dominance in Friday night's series opener with the Washington Nationals.
Cleveland (32-33) opened a nine-game road trip by losing seven in a row before finding some solace in winning the last two,...
Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Zach McAllister and current closer Vinnie Pestano took to the streets of New York City during a recent roadtrip with an MLB Fan Cave camera following them. The goal: a roving Kiss Cam. As you will see, Major League Baseball players have pull for absolutely no reason at all.
They found some people willing and others unwilling. But my...
Yesterday the Indians officially inked four players to contracts, and more are coming as if you have been paying attention to the signing updates here at IBI several more players will be officially signed in the next few days. Tony gives a few updates on some of the Indians' top 10 round picks plus some new news on some other players previously unmentioned in these signing updates.
When the Indians placed Brett Myers on the 60-day DL this week, they also effectively moved the veteran from the “reclamation” pile to the junk pile-- $7 million in dough down the drain for all intents and purposes. Barring a shocking comeback, Myers is this year’s Derek Lowe.
And so, for those with a perpetual ax to grind, it’s another fine occasion to either (a) bemoan...

The month of June continues to be a painful one for the Clippers who are now 32-34 after another losing week which saw the team go 2-4 in two series against Toledo and Gwinnett. The starting pitching has been throwing better as of late but if Columbus expects to contend for a playoff spot, the rotation will have to delve deeper into games to prevent late-season exhaustion in the...
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Jason Kipnis had a home run among his three hits and the Cleveland Indians got a series-clinching 5-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night.
A night after ending an eight-game losing streak, and a span of 12 losses in a row away from home, the Indians made it consecutive victories to clinch their first road series in a month. They had gone 0-4...
CHARLOTTE- The Columbus Clippers played a doubleheader Friday evening against the Charlotte Knights to make up for Thursday night’s game that was postponed due to heavy rains. Player of the Game
Mark Reynolds' solo home run earned him his third Player of the Game tonight, just edging out a number of other players. A walk late in the game pushed him over the edge as Carlos Santana and Michael Brantley each were out in their three at bats in which they didn't knock in a run. It is Reynolds first award in almost a month.
Player of the Game
Justin Masterson was dominant again and struck out 10 batters in seven innings. He allowed just two singles during his time in the game and a single run. It is his team leading 7th Player of the Game (tied with Jason Kipnis), but just his first since May 19th.
The Indians were able to take advantage of off days and move Justin Masterson...
