According to Kevin Wilson of the media relations staff, Nashville Predators captain Shea Weber is out tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers. Tonight would have been the first time Weber played the Flyers since they signed him to a 14-year, $110 million offer sheet on July 18, 2012. Six days later, the Predators matched, thereby locking up their captain through 2025-26. Weber got hurt when he was struck in the face by a puck late in the second period of Thursday night’s loss to the Edmonton Oilers. He did not return and was listed after the game as “day-to-day.” The two teams have only met 16 times in their history but the rivalry is a hot one thanks to nine games decided by two goals or less and three more contests that ended in a tie. And then, of course, there’s the surprise offer sheet to Weber. Most general managers won’t attempt offer sheets because there seems to be a gentleman’s agreement that it’s an underhanded way to conduct business. The newest member of the Nashville o...

Press release: Piskula recalled; Weber, Klein out

The Nashville Predators will be without the services of both Shea Weber and Kevin Klein tonight and have recalled Joe Piskula from Milwaukee...

Weber out; Piskula re-called

Nashville Predators' captain Shea Weber will be unable to play against the team that wanted him so bad two summers ago. Thursday night, Weber took a puck to the face against the Edmonton Oilers. Kevin Klein will also be out, leaving the need to call up a defenseman from the Milwaukee Admirals.  Joe Piskula will make his NHL debut Saturday night against a talented Philadelphia...

Preds play well but fall to Flyers in shootout

No Shea Weber. No Kevin Klein. No problem. In front of another sold out crowd at Bridgestone Arena, the young Nashville Predators defense played a great game and gave their team a chance to win but, in the end, lost in the shootout to the Philadelphia Flyers. Roman Josi, Seth Jones, Ryan Ellis, Victor Bartley, Mattias Ekholm and last-minute recall Joe Piskula had a combined 305 games...

Predators edged by Flyers in shootout 3-2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Vincent Lecavalier scored the only goal in the shootout, and the Philadelphia Flyers started a six-game road trip by edging the Nashville Predators 3-2 Saturday night for their second straight win. Claude Giroux scored in the first period, and Sean Couturier's goal at 13:06 of the third tied it up at 2-2 to help the Flyers reach the shootout. Steve Mason made...

Despite loss to Flyers, Predators young defense shines

A series of injuries forced Nashville to field a decidedly different lineup in Saturday night’s 3-2 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. After Shea Weber was struck in the face by an errant puck on Thursday night and Kevin Klein later went down with a lower-body injury, the Predators were forced to scramble to fill the two open defensive positions. While Mattias Ekholm was...

Trotz on Colin Wilson: “He’s gotta score for us”

Over the past handful of games, saying that Colin Wilson was snake-bitten would be a bit of an understatement. Wilson, who turned 24 last month and is in his fifth season with the Predators, collected his first goal tonight since November 6th against Colorado. His goal five minutes into the third period seemed like it couldn’t have come at a better time for the Predators, giving...

The Flyers and Red Wings are Apparently Rivals

The Philadelphia Flyers and Detroit Red Wings are set to face off against each other on December 4th. The significance? NBC will be airing their game on 8 o’clock, under the promotion of “Rivalry Night.” Someone needs to tell NBC that Detroit-Philadelphia is in fact not a rivalry. The Flyers will face off against the Blackhawks exactly a week later for another Rivalry Night...

Patten’s Plus-Minus: Nashville Predators vs. Philadelphia Flyers

The best and worst from Nashville’s 3-2 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night. Plus Marek Mazanec continued to be stingy with the goals, letting in only two Flyers goals in 24 shot attempts. It was Mazanec’s eighth straight game of allowing two or fewer goals. Over his last eight games, Mazanec has only allowed 12 goals. On the season, he holds a 5-4-1 record...

Flyers edge Jets for fifth straight victory on home ice

Scott Hartnell and Sean Couturier provided the offense while Steve Mason stopped all but one shot as the Philadelphia Flyers skated to a 2-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Friday afternoon. The Flyers (11-12-2) won their fifth straight game at home after dropping their previous two on the road at Florida and Tampa Bay. Mason turned away 25 shots in the early matinee, including...

Mason leads Flyers to 3-2 shootout decision over the Predators in Nashville

Steve Mason is usually one of the best players for the Philadelphia Flyers game in and game out, but Philly’s goaltender was extremely strong tonight in the Flyers’ 3-2 shootout win on the road against the Nashville Predators. Mason denied 34 of the Preds’ 36 shots in regulation and overtime before he made a pair of superb saves in the shootout to grab Philly the additional...

Phantoms Recall Goaltender Carsen Chubak From ECHL

On Saturday, the Adirondack Phantoms announced that they had recalled goaltender Carsen Chubak from the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL. This move appears to have been made due to the injury sustained by Phantoms goaltender Yann Danis in Friday night’s game against the Albany Devils. Danis was injured in a collision with several players about nine minutes into the first period...

Early momentum jets Flyers to win over Winnipeg

If there was any concern about starting an early game on the right skate, Scott Hartnell’s alarm clock went off on time Friday morning. The Flyers, who couldn’t find motivation in two losses in Florida, found plenty of jump early in the first period of a 2-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets. A couple days before, the 11:30 a.m. start was a cause for concern. As it turned out, the...
