WEEK TWO: NO SHOCKER HERE.

AGAINST San Diego I expect the EAGLES to win a frustratingly close game by emphasizing the run in the first half this week. 

The Chargers like the Foreskins run a 3-4, but the Bolts DL is much more talented in terms of getting penetration. This can be all too easily exploited by pounding the ball behind the Guards. Personally I'd love to see the game open with a play-action roll-out and short completion to one side (just something to get those 300lb D-linemen running), followed by a toss run to the other side, followed by a run up the gut. The Chargers are big up front. It'd be nice to see that strength relegated to a weakness. After 3 quarters of that from 3 different backs, the Chargers should be easier to push around than kindergartners.

But Birdflipper, if it'll be that easy why will it be a frustrating game?

The Chargers Offense while built on a shaky premise, is a bear to deal with if it gets going. Their weapons are even less dynamic than Washington's, but their QB see can see aspects of match-ups. By that I mean even though his WR's are frequently less talented by the guys covering them, Phillip Rivers can see the ONE ability his WR has to win the match-up on that give down. It's a rare ability, and his new HC has wisely chosen to exploit it by letting Rivers have the freedom to eyeball match-ups and then tweak it more at the line. Last week (despite his bottom feeder receiving corps) he threw 4 TD's against a very good Texans defense (2 were under 10 yards). In this system if Rivers still had Vincent Jackson, he'd have likely thrown 6. 

We WILL allow points. With Bradley Fletchers concussion, Brandon Boykin will have to slide outside, which I guess means that either Brandon Hughes or I guess Jordan Poyer will play Nickel. The rookie or the guy with the broken hand. Remember what I said about the match-ups? We WILL allow points. I expect this game to be close.
