NORTH CAROLINA 13, Johns Hopkins 9 -- North Carolina’s R.G. Keenan won 18 of 25 face-offs enabling the Tar Heels to control possession en route to an upset over the top-ranked Blue Jays in the final game of the Big City Classic at Met Life Stadium before a record lacrosse crowd of 25,934.
The last time the Tar Heels (8-3) took down the No. 1 ranked team in the country was on April 6th, 1996 when they defeated Virginia 19-18 in one of the highest scoring games in the school’s history. 
Carolina, ranked 11th, is now 6-22 all-time in games against top-ranked teams, including 3-7 against Johns Hopkins.
The loss was just the sixth in the last 29 games for the Blue Jays (8-1) and only the second in their last 18. The Baltimore school entered the contest as one of three undefeated teams in the country.
The Tar Heels were led by three goals from Jimmy Bitter and two apiece from Marcus Holman and Thomas Wood. Carolina received goals from nine players, including Keenan’s second of the season.
“This is a big win for us, no question,” said Carolina coach Joe Breschi. “I’m real proud and excited for these guys. We’ve had some bumps in the road as we’ve progressed through the season, but they have stuck together.”
