What Are EXPERTS Saying About The raiders?

Posted July 29, 2013

Okay so I’m watching NFL training camp live on the NFL Network and of course they were starting a segment on the  Oakland Raiders. Seeing how great we have been led to believe they were going to be by are unfriendly neighborhood Semi-pro, I thought I would check in and hear what other professionals (you know the REAL ONES) were saying about this alleged dynamic team spending nearly half their salary on players out of the league or on other teams.

The Question the was asked to the panel of experts was the following: HOW FAR AWAY ARE RAIDERS FROM BEING COMPETITIVE?

Dennis Green: Pretty far away… they have a ton of money being spent on players that are NOT there in training camp…they have to DECIDE on a quarterback since the let go a pretty good big time quarterback in Carson Palmer get away…the quarterback situation will be very difficult for them…McFadden is really good if he’s on the field…defensively they have a long way to go…this team is clearly not in that top echelon. (to note they were initially discussing just in their own division)

But what does Dennis Green know? I mean he’s only been involved in football in some way since 1968 and he only has 117 NFL head coaching victories.

Solomon Wilcox: I have to agree with coach there… this team is quite a ways away…they are trying to get better talent wise on the roster, but at the same time are trying to slash payroll and it’s hard to do that in the NFL (Nobody does it)…you can’t convince me that Matt Flyn is a better option than Carson Palmer… I know Carson had his critics there, but he still threw for over 4000 yards…he had the second best passing season in Raiders history behind Rich Gannon… they have so many moving parts right now that I think they’ve regressed…it going to take a while for them to turn this football team around.

But what does Solomon Wilcox know? He was only an NFL Defensive Back for three different NFL teams from 1987-1992! I mean what does he know compared to the great Semi-pro?

Darren Sharper: And I agree with you Solly, because from the outside looking in they are a couple of years away… They don’t have any players that you could consider playmakers, we still have to see what type of quarterback Matt Flynn can be…If you look at this roster, besides Darren McFadden there’s not a name that stands out to you as a guy that you really have to game plan for or scheme for to try and stop… The defense I know it has a lot of tough nosed players (although he couldn’t name any of them)…I know Dennis Allen having PLAYED with him in New Orleans I know what he brings as far as intelligence goes (4-12) as far as being a head coach…This team is a couple of years away (saying this while shaking his head)…Still playing players that aren’t playing for them…it’s a tough situation, and I hope (due to his admitted bias) that Dennis Allen gets to stay and see this turnaround happen because they are a couple of years away.

Darren Sharper  played in the NFL from 1997-2010, and is a 5 time pro bowl player and Super Bowl Champion.

Not even Sharper trying to play nice for his old teammate’s team could muster up enough courage to say the Raiders are better. In fact his comment implies that he believes the Raiders are so bad that his former teammate will be fired before they have any shot of being a better football team.

One thing I have noticed here is when you have mediocre quarterback play, but don’t have a quarterback COMPETITION, you often end up with a quarterback CONTROVERSY and that’s precisely where the Raiders are headed. If the Raiders win 6 games I would be shocked.

  • In other words the suck suck suck suck suck.
  • Keep calling him on this as long as the BS keeps coming. Did you notice him telling Hollywood to leave the "name calling" to us and that is EXACTLY why he blocked us? The next time I make up silly little nicknames for anybody's ID on here (including flip and Hollywood's) will be the first time. I stay away from the immature crap like the pre-teen insults flip (and Hollywood) has typed about me in the past so I'm not sure what he means. I type that flip is a hypocrite because that is what you call a man who rips most of the fans on here for legitimately being down on a 4-12 team only to start whining when they make moves he doesn't agree with. I call him a whiner because he has looked for things to whine about and stretches the truth to do so and I state that he is egotistical because I can only have a man type how wonderful he is so many times before letting him know he's full of himself. I also throw his double standards concerning the Eagles and Raiders in his face when given the opportunity and he has given me plenty of opportunities in the past few months. I type that hollywood is an oddball, BSer because...well we both know why. Am I making anything up here? He may look at is as me throwing out insults...I look on it as bringing some truth to his and Hollywood's posts.
  • I don't mind mind tossing a nickname or two out there regarding the flipocrite. It's much easier for me to call him that instead of typing out you're being a hypocrite. If that makes me immature then so be it. With that being the case I really don't read his stuff anymore so I don't even know what he's typing. Truth of the matter is I don't really care.
  • It definitely fits, Eazy and he has called people worse on here but it just isn't what I do. He and Hollywood's posts to each other are pretty freakin' comical anymore honestly. I'm not certain they can type to each other while keeping a straight face.
  • Well you know things have to be bad if Wood is his go to guy. LOL
  • Yeah...he's so desperate to get more than just a few generic comments by everybody else his go to guy is the epitome of what he claims not to like. Kind of hypocritical, isn't it? LOL.
  • Pretty much. Did you see where Kevin Kolb was injured slipping on a bath mat? I mean that guy can't be more brittle. I never thought there was a guy more injury prone than Vick, but that dude takes the cake.
  • Kolb may be out of the league soon if he can't stay healthy. He has made his rounds as "the guy" on a couple teams and now is slipping towards designated backup. No one is going to be willing to give him starter money (not even to battle for the spot) if he doesn't prove he can stay healthy. Some guys just can't stay healthy...we've seen it here in Philly.
  • I agree, because at this point in Kolb's career he can't even be counted on to be a backup. With his I think it's a choking mentality. He can perform like one of the leagues best when he doesn't have any pressure, but as soon as some real pressure is it on him ( playing a game that could determine if he's the starter, or simply a solid pass rush pressure) Kolb folds.
  • Looks like McFadden has placed his bets on Flynn being the QB with the bums. Now I wonder what happens first. Flynn gets benched or McFadden goes down with an injury, because both are certain.
