What Would Have Happened If Mike Vick Said No To The Eagles?

Posted July 21, 2013

With this sudden burst of people ASSuming Kelly really just wants his quarterback Vick and this competition is nothing more than a facade, I can’t help but wonder what would have happened if several months ago Mike Vick told the Eagles he 1) wouldn’t take a pay cut, and he 2) wouldn’t battle in a competition for the Eagles starting quarterback position? Do you think the Eagles would have just said okay and gave into Vick? After all they approached Nnamdi with the same offer and he told them to take a hike. He was promptly released. Do those who believe if Kelly really wants Mike Vick would chance losing him if he didn’t agree to those terms? Personally I find it odd that anyone would even risk giving Mike the chance to tell him no if they really “want” the guy. More intriguing is how Mike responded afterwards. He talked openly about looking forward to the competition at the time and wanting to prove himself. Of course I don’t think at the time he considered Foles a legit threat to supplant him. At least not until OTAs came around and Foles shined a little. Suddenly the idea of having to share reps and competition weren’t as good of an idea to Vick. So what’s the story people? How do you risk losing a guy that you “want” as stated by some or “need” as stated by others? Still Kelly could end all this by simply naming Vick the starter. Strangely he hasn’t despite the cries of Vick and Jackson. What a strange way to treat a player you allegedly can’t play without and want so desperately?

  • Doesn't matter. He didn't.

As for the rest, the first sign will come on next week (Friday July 26th) at the FIRST full team practice of camp. The first time they do an 11-on-11 walk through, you'll have an answer as to which way the wind is blowing and which player Kelly favors.
  • U gotta look at it from the FO view as well. Lurie wasn't going to continue to pay Vick that much. So if Vick wouldn't have taken a pay cut Kelly most likely wouldn't have a say in the decision. Being that Vick was willingly to take a cut and Kelly wanted to bring him back, cause if he didn't Vick wouldn't have been given an offer, it makes Vick one of Kelly's guys just like the FA brought in and the draft picks. We all know Lurie wasn't a fan of Vick after the dog crap we don't know how he feels about him know as a person, but as a player he clearly doesn't think as much as when he gave the 100,000,000 to him.
  • If Kelly didn't want the guy, all he had to do was cut him. In this case Kelly's actions speak louder than EZ's words.

  • This QB thing could backfire. What happens if Chip picks Foles and they lose the first four games. He looks like he made the wrong choice or never had a choice. Hes backed himself against a wall. He better win now.
  • Regardless of who starts, Kelly painted himself into a corner when he said he has to win now. Many fans (not just on here) were willing to let them tank this year; but between Kelly and DJax, people are going to EXPECT better than .500 in 2013.
  • If you are just too scared to answer the question it would have been better not make a comment at all.
  • I couldn't answer it without ASSuming to know what an alternate reality held. It isn't fear, it's just me admitting that I don't know something.
  • I answered. I said he wouldn't be here.
  • he'd said NO anyway
  • I hope Jordan Poyer brake!

    I making his movie!
  • How did you post this movie? I thought they took that out?
  • Since some are lacking the sack to answer the question I will do it for you. The answer is he would be gone just like Nnamdi was. Hardly a case of Chip not being able to do without the guy. I know this blows all of your lame theories out the water and as such answering the question honestly isn't something you are capable of doing.
  • But he said yes and so he's here.

Hey this is fun let me try!
What if Eve didn't eat the apple?
What if Moses had asked for directions?
What if hand soap was common during the Plague?
    What if Oswald missed?
What if Jerome Brown had slowed down?
What if Cory Lidle could see a building?

    Pointless to ask what if.
  • I did answer it. Thats what I said. But fact is Kelly wanted him back or Lurie would have just cut him.

  • WIP audio road show polls currently have fans voting for Foles to be the starter 51%, Barkley 38%, and Vick 11%. I know taters who have promoted polls all summer will reply that polls don't matter. Trolls will dismiss the fact over 400,000 fans wanting to see the new regime doesn't matter. These aren't the real Eagles fans. The real Eagles fan is really a Raiders fan LMAO.
  • Funny thing that.
Right now, on the Eagles website THE SAME question has ben posed with VERY different results:
Once Again: Who Starts At QB?
    Michael Vick 53.7%

    Nick Foles 29.77%

    Not going to guess 7.82%

    Matt Barkley 6.97%

    Dennis Dixon 1.74%

    Total Votes: 4,132

I guess it depends on what group listens to WIP or what group is in large representation on the Eagles website. I wonder, what would cause such a STARK division?
  • Oh that's easy. One is CBS local and local Philadelphia fans voted in it while The Eagles website is connected to NFL.com. It's a national level and those who aren't close to the situation will make the standard choice, just like all the pundits who aren't paying attention to the situation.
  • Really? You're under the impression that THE NATION is rushing to prop up Michael Vick? Is Obama sending in SEAL Team 6 to vote for him too? Nick Foles had better watch out for a Reaper drone strike! And you KNOW the internet is WORLDWIDE right?! Perhaps Egyptians are also voting and rioting in the streets over this! I heard a rumor that the Mars Lander sent back a Tweet in binary that was decoded as "Mike Vick, you my n****, dawg!! 7 fo-eva!"

    F*** outta here.
  • Well there is still this sit where over 9700 people voted and nearly 85% of them wanted him gone. How do you explain that?
    http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/eagles/Eagles_Stay_or_Go.html?mr=1&submit=Vote&oid=2&185583172=Y&pid=185583172&cid=8500281#poll_questions_top

  • Do u have a poll that isn't from early April? That one still has Trent Edwards. Do u have a link for the wip one? Or was that cataldi spreading his bs on there again?

As for flips being voted on by national people who don't know sh!t. Idk about u but I don't vote on other teams sites. That said I'm surprised how many people on there want Vick. I think that's the difference between not having Kelly n having him.
  • 20dawk, the poll asks who the fans think WILL start not who they want to start. I've seen some of the polls and I can differentiate from the two. I've stated for most of the off season that I thought Vick would start but if you asked me who I WANT to start it would be Foles. I would almost guarantee that the results would be more in favor of Foles if the poll was worded differently.

By the way...love your answer to flip about Lane Johnson and is pretty much in line with what I would have told him. To think that where Johnson lines up has anything to do with what QB Kelly is leaning towards is just another one of flip's stretches. The Eagles lined up their best tackle (by far) at LT for years with a left handed QB and the only reason that would change at all would have more to do with Peters than it would with Johnson...right now anyway. It isn't just about the QB when looking at what tackle will line up where, it's also about who they will be battling on game day.
  • So you think over 8,000 people suddenly warmed up to Vick? I doubt it. Do you believe people are happy Vick is even an option? I don't think so. In fact I don't even believe you're happy that Vick's an option.
  • The bottom line is Kelly doesn't love any of these quarterbacks more than the next guy. If they want the job they must earn the job. It's about to go down.
