It was a matter of time before the Kansas City Royals would lose a series after the All-Star break. And I’m not surprised it was against the lowly Miami Marlins. That’s the way baseball works. But even a team like the Marlins win games if their opponents can’t score runs, commit costly errors or give up key hits. Losing the series to the Marlins hasn’t finished the Royals season, but it was a lost opportunity for the team to close on Detroit and the Wild Card race. They’re 7.5 games back of Detroit and 4.5 games back in the Wild Card race after going 4-3 the last seven games. And losing Miguel Tejada for the season and a possible DL stint for Mike Moustakas makes it tougher to gain ground. But it’s not all bad. After going on a 12-game winning streak, the Tigers went 2-4 their last six games. And the Royals did take two out of three against the Tigers right after the All-Star break. So far this season, the Royals are 5-3 against the Tigers. It won’t be easy, but they can beat them....

George Kottaras is Much Better Than You May Think

I’m going to say something which may ruffle some feathers. Salvador Perez is a little overrated. But I’m going to follow that up with something that hopefully will win everyone back, George Kottaras is very, very underrated. He’s also the best back-up catcher in baseball and is as much the reason The Royals are on this hot streak as anyone else on the team. The praise for...

Royals designate Johnson for assignment to clear room for Bonifacio

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Less than 24 hours after infielder Elliot Johnson made a crucial error that allowed two unearned runs in a 5-2 loss to the Marlins, the Royals designated him for assignment, thus removing him from the 40-man roster. The Royals now have 10 days to either trade or release Johnson, who is out of minor league options. If Johnson were to clear waivers, the Royals...

Flanagan: Chen's magnificence wasted in loss

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- There's almost no explaining the incredible run Royals left-hander Bruce Chen is on. Chen was brilliant again Tuesday night, throwing seven shutout innings. And now his ERA is 0.93 through six starts since returning to the rotation. Unfortunately, the Royals offense again let him down, coming up with zilch in a rather discouraging 1-0 loss in 10 innings to...

Moustakas in a walking boot as precaution

Kansas City Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas left Monday’s game early with tightness in his left calf and hasn’t played since. This morning he was seen walking around with a boot but the team has said that was just a precaution to relieve pressure. I’m kind of skeptical about that as Ned Yost has said Moustakas won’t play till this weekend and even that’s just a possibility...

Tweet from ‘mustacherides69′ makes it on Kauffman Stadium scoreboard (photo)

During a recent Kansas City Royals game at Kauffman Stadium, some wisenheimer managed to get his tweet up on the scoreboard. Yep, that tweet comes courtesy of “mustacherides69,” who very well could have been wearing a “Big Johnson” t-shirt at the ballgame. It’s funny because it’s a sexual reference. Well played, sir. Although the best […]The post Tweet from ‘mustacherides69′...

Emilio Bonifacio Traded to Royals

The Kansas City Royals have acquired veteran utility infielder Emilio Bonifacio from the Toronto Blue Jays.  The Royals will send either a player to be named later or cash to complete the deal. This is the second utility infielder that the Royals have acquired this week.  On Sunday they picked up Jamey Carroll from the Minnesota Twins. It has been a rough year for Bonifacio, so...

Royals acquire Bonifacio from Jays

The Kansas City Royals acquired Emilio Bonifacio from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash or a player to be named later Wednesday, giving them a versatile player capable of providing depth in their banged-up infield. Third baseman Mike Moustakas remained out of the Royals lineup with a strained left calf for Wednesday's game against the Marlins. Fellow infielder Miguel Tejada, who...

Preview: Santana, Royals seek series victory over Marlins

As dazzling as the pitching staff has been in the Miami Marlins' wins this month, it has been fairly awful in the defeats. Jacob Turner's road struggles may mean the club is headed for more of the latter. After the Marlins got another victory via shutout, Turner looks for the first road win of his career in the finale of a three-game series with the Kansas City Royals on...

Royals resurgence Runs out of Steam

by John Viril--- The Kansas City Royals second half run has hit a huge pothole. Kansas City has now lost their 3rd consecutive game. While their post All-Star record is still an excellent 19-7, they have clearly lost their momentum.  While the bullpen contributed to the team's decline by losing a 0-0 10 inning game and blowing a 2-1 lead against the Marlins, but the primary...

Preview: Guthrie takes the ball as Royals pay a visit to the Tigers

While the Detroit Tigers own a comfortable lead in the AL Central, they have a chance to really distance themselves from one of the teams in pursuit.Detroit tries to extend its season-high home winning streak to 10 on Thursday night when it opens a five-game set against the Kansas City Royals. The Tigers (70-49) had dropped three straight and four of five before bouncing back with...

Royals acquire Emilio Bonifacio to help fill void at second base

The surging Kansas City Royals are looking for every little boost they can get to help them either chase down the Tigers in the AL Central or to snag one of the two Wild Card spots. Earlier this week they acquired infielder Jamey Carroll to help fill their season-long struggle to find a capable second baseman and now they've doubled down on that effort by acquiring utilityman...

Royals can show they're real deal vs. Tigers in Motown showdown

If the Kansas City Royals are indeed a playoff contender in the American League, their five-game series against the Detroit Tigers beginning Thursday night provides an excellent opportunity to show they're the real deal. Both the Royals and Tigers have been among the hottest teams in MLB since the All-Star break. Kansas City is 19-6 in the second half of this season, with...

Recap: Masterful Duffy leads Royals over Tigers in Game 1 of doubleheader

DETROIT (AP) Danny Duffy took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and beat Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers 2-1 on a combined two-hitter Friday in the first game of a day-night doubleheader. Eric Hosmer homered for the Royals. Ramon Santiago hit a pinch hit home run for the Tigers. Duffy (1-0), making his second big-league start this season after being called up from Triple...

Rookies come through as Marlins beat Royals in extras

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Christian Yelich singled home the go-ahead run with one out in the 10th inning Tuesday night and the Miami Marlins beat the Kansas City Royals 1-0 after a tidy matchup of contrasting starters. Hard-throwing Marlins prodigy Jose Fernandez and wily Royals veteran Bruce Chen each lasted seven innings before handing the scoreless game over to their bullpens...

Royals' Moustakas out of lineup with calf injury

Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas was out of Tuesday night's lineup against the Marlins because of a Grade 1 strain of his left calf that he sustained the previous night. Moustakas said he was rounding third base when he felt the calf muscle tighten. He still managed to cross home plate and even started the next inning in the field. But when he couldn't push off, he went...
