Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a Sunday afternoon in the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were (day) drinking. The Padres tried their best to avoid the sweep at the hands of the Dodgers. But their best wasn’t good enough. For the second day in a row, the Padres wasted a stellar pitching performance from their starter. Tyson Ross threw 5 innings, striking out 10 while giving up 1 run on 5 hits and one walk. The only run came in the third when Alexi Amarista drove in Reymond Fuentes, who had both his first Major League stolen base and hit on Sunday. Yasiel Puig broke a 1-1 tie with his 14th home run in the 6th inning. That proved to be the difference. The Padres start a 3-game series this afternoon with the San Francisco Giants. Ian Kennedy goes against Barry Zito at 12:40pm PDT. Tomorrow night it’s Robbie Erlin against Madison Bumgarner. And Wednesday afternoon pits Eric Stults against Tim Lincecum.
