The White Sox' carousel of small-scale roster moves early in the season continued Monday night, as the team acquired 28 year-old outfielder Casper Wells from the Oakland A's for cash considerations. Wells will join Jordan Danks and DeWayne Wise in the rotation of outfielders to fill in for Dayan Viciedo until he returns from the disabled list. To this point, it'd been a rotation of Danks, Wise, and Blake Tekotte, who was sent back down to AAA Charlotte on Sunday; all of whom hit from the left side of the plate. Simply put, Wells will start against lefty starting pitchers and likely play center field (with De Aza staying in LF) at least until Viciedo is back. When the Tank does return, it'd be fairly likely we see Wells DFA'd again, but as we've seen in less than a month of baseball, you really do not know how things are going to pan out. Wells' numbers are quite under whelming since making his major league debut for the Detroit Tigers in 2010. His most success actually came in that rookie season when, through 99 at-bats, he had 11 extra-base hits to go along with a .323 batting average. All was looking up for the youngster, but then, with the blink of an eye, it was gone. In the last month alone, he has been a member of the Mariners, Blue Jays, Athletics, and now the White Sox ... so, like South Side Sox's Jim Margalus calls him, he's basically serving as "baseball's 26th man." Looking deeper into his lifetime numbers, though, you realize he's struck out in over 21% of his plate appearances (171/661). But like another new Sox player, Tyler Greene, we know he has some potential deep in there somewhere, so if he can collect a big hit or two, as Greene has already done on the south side.
