Associated Press Justin Verlander is good.  What makes him good is his ability to throw all four of his pitches from the same arm slot and with the same arm speed. MLB.com generated a snippet where they compared the movement of all four of JV’s pitches (similar to what was done with Yu Darvish’s pitches last week).  His fastball, change-up, curveball and slider all look the same coming out of his hand, but then explode in their own direction. It doesn’t hurt that he can touch triple digits, but the movement is fearlessness is what makes Mr. Upton the best pitcher in the game.

Verlander pitches Tigers to fifth straight win

DETROIT Justin Verlander might have finally figured out April. If the Tigers ace has ever shown a weakness, it has been the first month of the season. He came into 2013 with a 11-15 record in April, including a 4.37 ERA. It's the only month where he hasn't had at least a .600 winning percentage, and it is also his worst ERA. This year, though, Verlander hasn't waited...

The Detroit Tigers have recalled right handed pitcher Jose Ortega who fills the spot on the active roster with Phil Coke going on the disabled list due to a left groin strain. In other moves, the Tigers also optioned pitcher Bruce Rondon to Triple-A Toledo and activated outfielder Avisail Garcia from the disabled list then optioned him to Toledo as well.   The post Detroit Tigers...

Twins try to tame host Tigers, Verlander

A finger problem won't keep Justin Verlander from trying to help the Detroit Tigers record a season-high fifth straight victory. The star right-hander doesn't seem too concerned about taking the mound Tuesday night when he tries to extend his recent dominance over the visiting Minnesota Twins. Verlander (2-2, 1.95 ERA) allowed two runs and eight hits against Kansas City...

Rondon struggles, goes back to Toledo

DETROIT -- The Bruce Rondon experiment is on hold once again. The Tigers optioned Rondon to Triple-A Toledo after Wednesday's 6-2 loss to Minnesota. Rondon hit 101 mph several times during the seventh, but two of those fastballs were hit for a triple and an RBI single. He retired only one of the five batters he faced, walking two and giving up the two hits. "He's...

Torii Hunter’s Son Suing Girl Who Falsely Accused Him Of Rape For $40 Million

In May of 2012 Darius McClinton-Hunter, son of Detroit Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter, and three of his classmates from Prosper (Texas) High School were accused of sexual assault when two girls said the boys forced them to have sex. Less than 48 hours after making the accusation, one of the girls recanted her story. Despite the accuser’s admission that the boys did not rape her...

The five things that popped out: 1) Sweeping the hot Atlanta Braves The Braves still had the best record in the National League...

The Tigers moved Avisail Garcia up to Toledo after his rehab stint in Lakeland, and also placed Phil Coke on the disabled list, replacing him with Toledo right hander Jose Ortega. Plus, the Lakeland club has been bit by the injury bug, big time.

Detroit Tigers Offense Starting to Growl

The Detroit Tigers were scuffling a bit offensively through the early weeks of this season. A combination of solid pitching by their opposition, cold weather, and visiting some pitcher’s parks on their only West Coast swing of the season all spelled out a spate of games where Detroit’s lineup seemed very docile and apathetic. The easy way to express the offensive malaise was...

Game 2013.26: Twins at Tigers

15-11, in first place and leading K.C. by half a game still, and the win streak is at 5 games and counting. Anibal Sanchez got this thing rolling with a career outing against the Braves last Friday, and while we won’t see 17 strikeouts from him today, we might see a more subtle masterpiece here in his second 2013 outing vs. the Twins. Such as a no-hitter, for example. Just a suggestion...

Tigers 7, Astros 3(14)

When Detroit's Don Kelly watched Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder take consecutive intentional walks to load the bases in the 14th inning, he wasn't surprised. He also knew it set up a great chance for him to end this marathon game. Kelly took advantage of it, singling in the go-ahead run to start a four-run 14th inning and the Tigers beat the Houston Astros 7-3 Thursday...

Scott Diamond pitched six solid innings, and the Minnesota Twins got to Anibal Sanchez early in a 6-2 win over Detroit on Wednesday that snapped the Tigers' five-game winning streak. Sanchez (3-2) was coming off a 17-strikeout performance against Atlanta, and he fanned five in the first two innings against the Twins - but Minnesota scored two runs in the first and another in...
