Penn State’s recent ban of Neil Diamond’s famed song “Sweet Caroline” reflects on the delicate nature of the current state of public relations between organizations and the media. Following the galvanizing controversy regarding Jerry Sandusky and the sex abuse trial, Penn State cannot risk even going near the subject of “touching”. This banning of the famous love song may be explained by the lyrics “Touching me, touching you” that are repeated through the song.  Penn State is not going too far in their actions of precaution shown towards this very sensitive topic, as another public outrage would further devastate the program and its reputation. Replacing this song would be easy and help avoid another outbreak of resentment shown towards the university. Penn State also made a smart move on the public relations front by making this move, as it is an action reflecting some kind of response as well as an indirect acknowledgement of their mistakes. In the future, if the dedication of Penn State in moving away from the controversy is ever questioned, this action gives them one more defense to point to. The replacement of this tradition at football games could also signify a movement in a new direction for the program, as any traces of the recent past will continue to actively harm the school and its credibility.

AP: Review says Sandusky fits sex predator status

Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky has been recommended for designation as a sexually violent predator, a legal status that would require lifetime registration with authorities, according to a person who has read an assessment board's report to a judge in the case. The recommendation from the Sexual Offenders Assessment Board was disclosed to The Associated...

Paterno family adjusts to new era at Penn State

Penn State's season opener this Saturday will be the first since 1965 not featuring someone with the last name Paterno on the sidelines. They're out of the picture, like the campus statue of the family patriarch; erased like his coaching records. But the family will be in Beaver Stadium in spirit, if not watching from a skybox - a sign that through the turmoil of the past...

How Will “Paterno” Be Remembered?

Vince Lombradi once said “Winning isn’t everything—but wanting to win is.”  It seems longtime Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, and Lombardi admirer, will forever be remembered as the coach who turned a blind eye to a defensive coordinator who turned out to be a serial child molester of boys all in the name of winning.  In Joe Posnanski’s new biography “Paterno”...

The PSU Pedobear showed up at Dragoncon in Atlanta

At this point we can go ahead and throw maturity out the window because the Penn State Pedobear showed up in Atlanta this weekend. I don’t know what to say. This is beyond wrong. I’m glad Jerry Sandusky is behind bars. Can we focus on football please?
