To be the best in the world at something you have to be clutch. You have to be able to make the play, sink the shot, make the catch, nail the putt--the list could go on and on. The bottom line is you have to get the job done when you should, but even more importantly when you should not. Like Tiger Woods does (most of the time), and Rory McIlroy wishes he could do more. Keith Allison/Flickr Tiger may not win too many (if any) more Majors, but he is the No. 1 golfer in the world for a reason--because the man can make killer shots like this one at the British Open Thursday that normal folks dream about. Does it get much more clutch than that? I guess the ball could have found the hole, but other than that-- no! As good as Rory is he still has a ways to go before he can even think about taking Tiger down--or making shots like Tiger. He tried Thursday and didn't have near the success that Tiger did.

Tiger hits one-legged shot at British Open

YouTube Forget the talk of whether Tiger is “back.”  Nobody will ever be back to the days of when Tiger Woods was big pimpin’ and winning Majors left and right like it was his job. Now that the women seem to be gone, Tiger must resort to only being number one on the money list and in the FedEx Cup standings.  The Major wins may or may not come back. But, shots like this one...

Broadcasters rip Tiger for swearing on camera

Tiger Woods was making a run at the lead of The Open Championship during the third round and he was caught on camera cursing.  It was only a “God damnit,” so not as severe as it could have been, but the announcers didn’t hold back from judging him.  Clearly they thought that he should know better not to swear because there are always microphones on him, but in Tiger’s defense...

McIlroy putts across entire green into bunker

As has been standard operating procedure for the young man for some time now, Rory McIlroy once again struggled mightily during tournament play on Thursday during the first round of the British Open at Muirfield. Rory carded a 79 during a disastrous round, leaving him already eight over par after eighteen holes, thirteen strokes behind [...]The post Rory McIlroy putts across entire...

Rory McIlroy fires back at Nick Faldo

Rory McIlroy responded to Nick Faldo's critique that he isn't devoted enough to golf, saying about his struggles, "Nick should know how hard this game is at times."

British Tabloids Crush Rory McIlroy, Call Him ‘Brainless’ After Poor First Round at British Open (Photo)

2013 has not been a fun year for Rory McIlroy, to say the least. The No. 2-ranked golf player in the world, a year after being named the PGA Tour Player of the Year, hasn’t played nearly like one. He hasn’t won any tournaments and even had a brush with controversy in February, when he walked off the course at the Honda Classic, citing wisdom tooth pain. And now, it appears McIlroy...

Rory McIlroy searching for help after a fat 79

Rory McIlroy is ready to get some help after a fat 42 on the back nine almost surely put him out of contention in the British Open barely after it began. Not with his swing. With his mind. In McIlroy's words, ''Sometimes I feel like I'm walking out there and I'm unconscious.'' McIlroy imploded with a startling series of missed shots on the back nine...

Tiger Woods Looks to Win 15th Major Title At 2013 British Open

Tiger Woods’ quest for his 15th major title will continue this week as he takes the tee for the 2013 Open Championship. The last time the PGA superstar won a tournament of this significance was the US Open back in 2008. He hasn’t come out on top at the British Open since 2006 — so why, then, is he continually among the favorites on the golf moneyline? Betting on golf, like...

Rory, others miss the cut

Two-time major winner Rory McIlroy and reigning U.S. Open champion Justin Rose headline those that missed the cut at the 142nd Open Championship at Muirfield on Friday. With the cut coming at 8-over 150, 84 of the original 156-man field made the cut, the highest cut since 2008 that fell at 9 over at Royal Birkdale. McIlroy shot an 8-over 79 on Thursday and made it clear his chances...

Column: Is it finally Tiger's turn at British?

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By TIM DAHLBERG AP Sports Columnist Tiger Woods was actually having a pretty good day, though the fans lining the seventh hole might have thought otherwise. They had the misfortune of having to listen as he unleashed a string of loud expletives directed at himself and a ball that bounced over the green into the rough. Hardly the way a gentleman golfer at the...

Tiger's major drought hits 17

Tiger Woods is still chasing Jack Nicklaus' record of major wins.

Report: Elin Nordegren ‘Really Likes Lindsey’ Vonn, Says She’s ‘A Very Good Influence on Tiger’

It looks like Tiger Woods may get a happy ending after all, depending on which tabloid has the facts right. While marriage might not be in the books for Woods after girlfriend Lindsey Vonn didn’t seem too keen on the idea, the family turmoil that came after Woods was divorced from Elin Nordegren and started dating Vonn may have dissipated for good. The New York Post reports that...
