Bill Parcells has been in the news again, and depending on when you read this story, he has either taken, or not taken the head coaching job with the New Orleans Saints. As Parcells has re-entered our collective mindset, I was reminded that the coach is a fan of spending summer months at the Saratoga Race Course. Now, of this I am somewhat of a minor authority. I live only about 20 minutes from the track and I actually worked there on several occasions during my college years. Though, my “college years” are about as easy to quantify as our national debt (Van Wilder has nothing on me). For this, I cannot help but make a horse racing connection. It just so happens that in August of 1941, the same month and year that Coach Parcells was born, a horse named Whirlaway won the Travers Stakes at Saratoga, capping off an incredible summer; winning the United States Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. Whirlaway is the only horse to have won the Triple Crown and the Travers Stakes in the...

Saints Nation: Praying for Parcells

It's been no secret I'm a huge fan of the idea that Bill Parcells come to the Saints for one season only to replace a suspended Sean Payton. To quickly recap my thoughts about why this is a perfect fit: 1. Sean Payton and Bill Parcells are close friends, share the same coaching philosophy, and Payton views Parcells as a mentor.2. Parcells, at 70, is still completely present...

Bill Parcells said he would be interested in the head coaching job in New Orleans while Sean Payton serves his one-year suspension, according to the NY Daily News. Parcells stated, "I had plenty of opportunities to do things with different teams, and I've turned them all down. But this one is special. This guy is like family to me. And if I could help him, I would."...

Report: Parcells to the Saints is still up in the air

According to Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton and Bill Parcells met on Tuesday about the possibility of Parcells taking over as the interim head coach in New Orleans for the 2012 season. Right now, nothing is imminent when it comes to Parcells stepping back onto the sidelines for at least one more season. There was even the idea of Parcells...

Bill Parcells might return as a favor to Sean Payton

According to Bob Glauber of Newsday, if Bill Parcells ends up deciding to come out of retirement to coach the New Orleans for the 2012 season while Sean Payton serves a year-long suspension, it would only be as a favor to Payton. “If this guy says to me, ‘Bill, I need you to do this,’ ” Parcells said in an interview with Newsday Wednesday afternoon, per Glauber. “That...

Herm Edwards says the Saints are mocking the Rooney Rule

Last week, it was announced that the Saints Head Coach, Sean Payton, would be suspended for all of the 2012 season due to his part in Bountygate (for lack of a better term). Then, earlier this week, news broke that Payton himself had reached out to Bill Parcells to fill the head coaching position in New Orleans for this year. However, before the Saints can fill this position, they...

Payton, Saints have decisions looming this week

As Sean Payton finishes what could be his last week of work in 2012, he and the Saints' brass have some major choices to make. They're hoping Bill Parcells can help, whether he wants to get back into coaching or not. Payton considers Parcells his mentor, and has spoken with him several times since learning last week that the NFL intended to suspend him for all of the coming...
