The New York Yankees have selected right-handed pitcher Preston Claiborne as the replacement for the injured Joba Chamberlain. The news was first broke by fellow minor leaguers Rob Segedin and Mark Montgomery on Twitter a short while ago according to an article on Examiner.com
Claiborne, 25, was one of the most productive relief pitchers during spring training this season, allowing just one earned run in twelve innings. He was off to a good start with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, pitching to a 3.48 ERA and striking out ten batters over 10 1/3 innings pitched.
A former 17th round pick in the 2010 Amateur Draft, Claiborne sports a low-to-mid 90s fastball and a mid-80s slider.
No corresponding roster move to make room for Claiborne on the 40-man roster has been announced.
