Have you heard this one? Yankees Green… A man and his wife are walking down a busy city street when they see a giant billboard that reads: 16 Billion and counting…. “National Deficit?” asks the wife. Her husband replied, “No dummy it is the New York Yankees payroll.” Ok maybe not that specific joke, but certainly its theme. My guess is you have heard something like it as the Yankees have been criticized for their free spending ways for years. This is not limited to just the haters, as a bulk of the Yankees own fan base incessantly whines about player’s paychecks like it is their money. Personally, I have never had an issue with the Yankees spending. I appreciated the industrious and self-less effort made by the late George Steinbrenner by making money no object. Did Vernon Wells just have his Giambi grandslam moment as a Yankee?

The ancient storytellers say that on May 17, 2002, the tragic hero named Jason became a Yankee Argonaunt for eternity. It happened in the 14th inning of what appeared to be a soul-stealing defeat to the fearsome Twins. A pitcher called Sterling Hitchcock had surrendered three runs, and the Yankee ship was taking water.  Shane led off with a single. Alphonso hit a pop fly. Jeet singled...

The first 5,000 fans will receive a bobbled David Adams contract, which has stuck him in Limbo (aka Scranton) until May 15, (aka David Adams Day.)David Adams is currently hitting well and playing 3B for Scranton, which would had made him a Yankee now, but for the MLB rule that forbids teams from immediately resigning minor leaguers after...

There is do doubt that this 18-month-old who is referred to as ‘C.C’ knows more than I do about some of the Yankees’ greats. Alex Rodriguez Takes Field for First Time Since Surgery, Joining Yankees Teammates for Rehab

TAMPA, Fla. — Alex Rodriguez is back on the field for the first time since surgery on his left hip almost four months ago. He joined a group of injured New York Yankees starters Monday at the team’s minor league complex. The 37-year-old third baseman ran, played catch and hit off a tee. Rodriguez said it’s “like being 8 years old again when I first grabbed a bat.” He added...

Home run breaks Pineda's car window

Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda was involved with an odd long ball. Pineda, who missed all of last season after right shoulder surgery, parked his SUV Wednesday in a grass parking lot behind the left-field fence at the Yankees' minor league complex. After working out, the right-hander got an unexpected surprise. A batting practice homer aided by the wind blowing out went through...

Yankees Game 32: Vernon Wells drives in two in win

Vernon Wells drove in two, scored twice, and played third base in the ninth inning tonight. New York Yankees 3 – Colorado Rockies 2   Vernon Wells came through in many ways in tonight’s 3-2 win over the Colorado Rockies. Hope that you are having a good evening. As the baseball season is in full swing, we have been lucky to see a few scuffles this season, however after watching the video below nothing can really compare. Yankees' lineup has pitcher batting eighth

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi is batting starting pitcher David Phelps eighth in their lineup Wednesday night instead of the more traditional ninth spot in an interleague game against Colorado. Girardi took the unusual step to help protect his left-handed heavy lineup against a Rockies bullpen filled with left-handed relievers. The Rockies are starting right-hander Juan...

We are going to Colorado to play shorthanded

How does a $200 million team have no bench, whatsoever? The next three nights, we may have to see Mariano play SS.Our usual SS, Eduardo Nunez, is listed as day to day. He has a bad rib. That can be really tricky. If Eduardo can't play, it means Jason Nix takes the slot. And it means if he comes up in the late innings, we cannot pinch hit for him.  Even Francisco Cervelli - our...

Fan at Rockies’ Game Makes Slick Grab With His Hat

Vernon Wells jacked a two-run home run to deep left field during the top of the first to give the Yankees an early 2-0 lead, but that wasn’t even the most impressive part of the play. A single fan was sitting out in left and smoothly snagged the home run ball in his hat. He casually stood there accepting praise for the grab and brushed a little dirt off of his shoulders in the...

Yankeetorial: A-Rod steps outside his pod and draws immediate fire from the watchdogs of socio-economic justice

However we feel about Alex Rodriguez, can we agree that yesterday, the man did something nice? He was the lone rehabbing player down in the Tampa clinic - the Yankee Hebrew Home at Riverside-South - to step outside the security fence and sign autographs for fans. He did this for about 30 minutes. It drew reporters the way a melted popsicle attracts ants. Naturally, the brotherhood...

Similarities between 2013 Yankees and 2009 Mets

The first thought readers will get after reading this headline is how I am knocking the Yankees. It could not be further from the truth. I am actually giving the team credit for its 18-12 start, something that did not seem possible given the amount of injuries the team has had to deal with. It all started with the Derek Jeter broken ankle in the 2012 postseason and continued with...
