Found February 28, 2013 on The Outside Corner:
What else can baseball fans do in January but dream of October? In You May Say I'm a Dreamer, the Outside Corner staff will imagine the route to a World Series in 2013 title for all 30 teams. After a miraculous 2012 season, the Baltimore Orioles weren't counted on to contend again in 2013. They were called a fluke, a one-year wonder, and quite frankly, just not a contender in the loaded AL East. But here we are, and eight months after the Ravens brought a Super Bowl championship to Baltimore, the Orioles have brought Charm City a World Series championship. Much like in 2012, the Orioles used a strong bullpen to thrive in 2013. Closer Jim Johnson followed up a 51 save, 2.49 ERA 2012 by saving 47 games and posting a 2.77 ERA. Brian Matusz, who thrived in the bullpen late in the season, continued his success in his new role, striking out 93 hitters in 79 innings and pitching to a 1.14 ERA as the primary setup man for Johnson. Troy Patton and Darren O'Day also solidi...

2013 projections for Manny Machado are too conservative

The leap is way too large to consider that the Baltimore Orioles went 33-18 once Manny Machado made the leap to the Major Leagues at the age of twenty last season. One player doesn't a .647 winning percentage down that stretch make. But it makes for a nice theory. After all, the third base position went from the worst fielding position in the majors to a savings of four and...

Orioles P Chen wants to be more competitive

Wei-Yin Chen has become Baltimore's biggest winner. Just 12 months ago, Chen was an unknown for the Orioles. The 27-year-old Taiwan native arrived in Baltimore by way of Japan, where he spent four seasons. The unknown turned into a huge bargain for Baltimore, who signed him to a three-year, $11 million contract before the 2012 season. Japanese left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada and...

2013 Season Preview: Baltimore Orioles

No team was a bigger surprise in 2012 than the Baltimore Orioles. Even though people still didn't believe in them even as they were playing in the ALDS, the YOLOrioles decided to run it back, entering 2013 with largely the same roster, hoping to once again prove all their critics dead wrong. Orioles on TOC End of Season Postmortem 2013 Season Preview You May Say I...

2013 burning question: Baltimore Orioles

Continuing from our season preview of the Baltimore Orioles earlier today... Can the Orioles recapture their 2012 magic? Every Oriole fan has heard this over and over again in the last year. -Baltimore only had a +7 run differential -The Orioles went an unrepeatable 29-9 in one-run games -The O's lucked into an incredible 16-2 record in extra inning games...

This is my nightmare: Baltimore Orioles

In the This Is My Nightmare series, we'll take a look at what the absolute worst case scenario for each team would be in 2013. Think of it as the negative complement to our You May Say I'm A Dreamer series that we'll be running during our preview series. A nightmare season for the 2013 Orioles can be described thusly: instead of playing like they did in 2012, the...

Ron Gardenhire wants Twins to sign Jim Thome

Jim Thome remains unsigned. One of baseball’s best power hitters, the 42-year-old Thome is not ready to retire just yet. There was not a lot of talk connecting Thome to teams this winter but that has not stopped the left handed hitter with 612 career home runs from looking. One team that could be an option for Thome is the Minnesota Twins 1500ESPN reports that Twins manager Ron...

Orioles 6, Pirates 5

Brian Roberts had three hits and a home run, and Nolan Reimold and Wilson Betemit hit consecutive home runs Friday to lead the Baltimore Orioles over a Pittsburgh Pirates' split squad 6-5. Gaby Sanchez homered twice for the Pirates. Limited by concussions, back surgery and hip surgery to 115 games during the past three seasons, Roberts hasn't hit a regular-season home run...

Miguel Cabrera and Adam Jones star Rihanna's "Diamonds" parody(Video)

As we near the start of the Major League Baseball season, the fine folks over at the MLB Fan Cave decided to produce a parody music video starring Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones and Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera. They used the template of Rihanna's hit song "Diamonds" and called their track "The Diamond" to pump up baseball fans....

Los Angeles Angels will give away Mike Trout bobblehaed of catch against Baltimore Orioles

Tweet   Last June eventual American League Rookie of the Year Mike Trout made one the defensive plays of the season when he robbed Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy of a would-be home run in Baltimore. Re-watching the video never gets old, but if you would like another way remember the moment these will be available [...]

Spring Training Game 5: Errors costly in Yankees loss

Baltimore Orioles 10 — New York Yankees 7   Five errors prove costly in today’s 10-7 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.   Brett Gardner continues to hit the baseball all over the field with a bases-loaded triple, bringing 3 runs in a 4-run 2nd inning. He is currently hitting .625 (5 for 8) in 3 games this Spring. The Yankees offense couldn’t make much of an impact the rest of...
