Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Any day now, the Red Sox will sew up a wild-card berth and then the American League East. Honest. But in the interim the wild-card race is both intriguing and stupefying. Intriguing in that after Wednesday night’s results, which included a 5-3 Orioles win over the Red Sox in 12 innings and a 12-inning Rays walkoff win over the Rangers, there are six teams within 2½ games of a second wild-card berth. The Indians and Orioles are separated from second wild-card (currently held by the Rangers) by a half-game and game respectively, while the Yankees and Royals are 2½ games back. Globe (Paywall): Orioles on wild ride  The AL Wild Card is going to end up a disaster. Six teams within 2 1/2 games. There's a chance that we could have a four way tie for the two spots in which I hope it would lead to a four-team tournament to become THE ULTIMATE WILD CARD TEAM. Out of that group of six, there's only one that scares the bejesus out of me. It's the team that has been the thorn in our side for the past three seasons. The one that continues to deny us the chance to finally breathe and officially look forward to the playoffs. The Baltimore Orioles.  They're the only AL East rival to have a winning record against the Sox this season and just one more win away from winning the season series. Four of their nine wins have been in the come from behind fashion, including the past two. They're doing things to the Red Sox that the Sox have done to the rest of the AL.  The Sox also face the O's in the season finale and for once the Sox can play spoiler. I'll feel more comfortable trying to win two out of three in September against them then facing off in the Division Series.  Rest of the Links: Sox miss their chances | Herald: Orioles put Sox playoff party on hold | Peavy, Sox stay positive despite two tough defeats | Eleven arms too many for postseason needs | Notebook: More pain for Victorino | CSNNE: Not on this night | Davis' single in 12th leads O's over Sox | WEEI: Nothing magic about this one | Victorino leavs game with jammed thumb
