Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Apparently Koji Uehara is human. The Japanese right-hander had been nearly infallible in the second half of this season.  Until the ninth inning against the Orioles Tuesday night at Fenway Park. Uehara entered the game riding two significant streaks. He had retired 37 consecutive batters – the second-longest streak in major league history, to Bobby Jenks’ streak of 41 straight batters retired in 2007 – and had not allowed a run in 30 1/3 innings – the longest such streak by a Red Sox pitcher since Dick Radatz’s 33-scoreless-innings streak in 1963. Uehara quickly saw both streaks come to a halt. Danny Valencia led off the inning with a triple to center field on an 0-and-2 fastball. Valencia’s drive, to the warning track in front of the garage door in center field, glanced off the glove of Shane Victorino, who had been shaded over to left. It was the first hit off Uehara since the Yankees’ Lyle Overbay two-out single in the ninth inning on Aug. 17 at Fenway. CSNNE: Uehara disappointed in loss, not end of streak So it's finally over. The nearly unprecedented steaks from Koji Uehara are over. I don't know what's more amazing, the 37 straight retired or the 30 1/3 scoreless.  Koji hadn't given up a hit in a month and an earned run in two and a half months. He was three scoreless innings away from not only breaking Dick Radatz's team record but also having a sub 1.00 ERA. Koji's dominance made it an 8 inning game for opposing teams. Once he came in, the game was over, just line up and get your high fives. He's still got two things going for him: he hasn't walked a batter since August 3rd (18 1/3 IP) and he hasn't thrown more than 21 pitches since he became the closer on June 26th. In fact, since he's been closer is ERA is a ridiculous 0.47 and he has a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 26.5.  No matter how you dissect the stats, they all look phenomenal. We will never see a stretch like this from a Red Sox closer again. He's made the team look great and turned the biggest issue of team into it's strength. Not bad for the team's fourth option as closer.  Rest of the Links: Globe: Celebration on hold | No need for Sox fans to fake it | Herald: Ellsbury expected back | Uehara's run comes to end | Doubront to reappear | Breslow continues to set up well out of bullpen | CSNNE: He's human after all | Uehara allows rare run as O's beat Sox | Breslow gets out of big jam in the 8th | WEEI: Taking a whole new angle | Uehara "Not disappointed the streak ended" |
