Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Speaking to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the former Phillie revealed that Boston was not his first choice heading into free agency. His first choice would have been a reunion in Philadelphia, where he spent eight years of his career. "Oh yeah, absolutely,"said Victorino. "I focused on that. I wanted to come back. We kept in touch and informed them on what was going on and the opportunities I was getting. We gave them every last shot to give me an opportunity to come back. This was the place I wanted to be. But unfortunately it didn't work out." CSNNE: Victorino: Philadelphia 'was the place I wanted to be' I've been to Philly many times, and it's not that great. It's understandable that someone who spent 8 drama-free years of his career in Philly wanted to return to the city. He didn't bash Boston in any way, just stated he wanted to re-sign with the Phillies. He looked genuinely enthusiastic during the introductory press conference for the team that wasn't his first choice. I would have thought the Sox were his first choice and was dying to play in Boston. I'll take that excitement from a guy playing for his runner-up.
