NESN’s Dale Arnold checked in with some Massachusetts youth hockey players for their thoughts on the lockout. As expected, most don’t care how it’s accomplished, they just want hockey back. Even though they don’t know who Donald Fehr or Gary Bettman are, even the youngest hockey fans know the simplest version of why the NHL is in a work stoppage: everyone wants more money. Fortunately, even though talks broke off on Thursday, the two sides did speak over the weekend and are expected to meet again this week. Watch the video above to hear some young hockey fans’ thoughts on the lockout. One player even think the whole disagreement comes down to Tim Thomas.

GARTH: Its A Matter Of Trust

Donald Fehr stepped to the podium in Toronto on Saturday afternoon. He was addressing the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW). I could swear that Fehr's message was tactically directed at Gary Bettman and the NHL owners. Fehr's message, in a nutshell: He and is 700+ man membership are not intimidated by the bully tactics that were leveled at Fehr and the players in New York...

Travis Yost: Here's an Interesting Article I (Mostly) Didn't Write

Take it away, David D'Alessandro. (h/t NJ.com) Amid the acrimony and coercion and castigation and crocodile tears, there is an emerging suspicion that the joke, whatever it is, is on us. Yes, all of us. Or more specifically, anyone outside the two-man quorum represented by David SternGary Bettman and Billy HunterDonald Fehr, who knew exactly where the deal-point existed...

Just Off Broadway

from Bruce Arthur of the National Post, Once you got past the burbling emotion of Gary Bettman’s aria in New York last week, which deputy commissioner Bill Daly occasionally turned into a duet, it was a rich tale in more ways than one. It was a tale of deceit and disingenuousness, of betrayal and intransigence, of villains and the gracious barons who are trying to reform them...

Amnesty Talk

from Larry Brooks of the NY Post, It’s about money outside of the system, Canceler-in-Chief Gary Bettman and deputy Bill (The Hill) Daly maintain in turning a studied blind eye to the pain 10 NHL teams will endure trying to comply with the cap without a mechanism to ease compliance. For example, the Flyers project to having $2.5 million of space to fill seven spots (about...

Sunday Morning Hockey Notes

from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun, - Social media has raised the emotional awareness of the NHL lockout in all kinds of ways. John Jaeckel: Both Sides Are Right. Both Sides Are Wrong.

Follow me @jaeckel In a blog I posted last week, I made my feelings on the current state of the NHL labor dispute quite clear. There was a deal to be made last week, one that was workable for both sides, and Donald Fehr scuttled it. Since then, however, I have heard the opposite point of view expressed in writing, directly to me by a source, and over the airwaves—and...
