BOSTON — Zdeno Chara walked to the podium for postgame news conference Thursday night with almost a little bit of a jump in his step. You would certainly understand if the big fella was lumbering a little, though. That’s because the Bruins captain had just played an astounding 38 minutes and two seconds of hockey in Boston’s 3-2 overtime win over the New York Rangers in Game 1 of their second-round series. But there Chara was, taking what seemed like just a leisurely stroll into the press conference room to field questions from the waiting media, like it was just another day. He did so wearing the custom-made Army Rangers jacket that the club hands out among themselves to the player of the game following each win. Chara certainly earned it in Game 1. The 36-year-old buoyed a makeshift defensive corps for the Bruins that had a trio of rookie defensemen, including two players who were in Providence last week and a rookie who can barely vote, let alone drink. Chara’s Herculean effort i...

Dennis Seidenberg, Andrew Ference, Wade Redden Possibly Back for Game 2

The Bruins got a boost from three rookie defensemen in Game 1 on Thursday night, but the B’s may not need the tenderfoot trio to do it again in Game 2. Brad Marchand ‘Fine,’ Will Play Thursday Night Despite Morning Skate Incident, Says Claude Julien

Crisis averted. He’ll be out there [Thursday night],” Julien explained. According to reporters Matt Kalman and Joe McDonald...

Vote: Which Bruins Rookie Most Deserves to Play in Game 2 If All Defensemen Are Healthy?

The Bruins were thought to be in big trouble when injury kept Dennis Seidenberg, Andrew Ference and Wade Redden out of Game 1 of Boston’s Eastern Conference semifinal series with the Rangers. Those worries proved unfounded, though, as a trio of rookies filling in on the blue line far exceeded expectations in a 3-2 overtime win. Now, B’s coach Claude Julien has some decisions...

Bruins Back In The Day: A Boyish Bergeron Takes A Spin On A…Zamboni? (VIDEO)

It’s incredible to think that Patrice Bergeron has been a member of the Boston Bruins for 10 years. And to make us all feel old…..he is ONLY 27. How time flies when you mature into one of the best two way players in the game. But who can forget Bergy as the young buck from Quebec? Who remembers this commercial from 2004 with then franchise goalie Andrew Raycroft? Bahahaha...

Vote: Which Bruins Rookie Defenseman Impressed You the Most in Game 1?

Dougie Hamilton, Matt Bartkowski and Torey Krug aren’t afraid of the Men in Blue, and they proved that on Thursday night. The three rookie defensemen stepped up in Game 1 against the Rangers at TD Garden with veterans Wade Redden, Andrew Ference and Dennis Seidenberg out with injury. While many B’s fans assumed that dressing a trio of rooks would be a cause for concern, the three...

Disruptive Presence in Bruins’ Defensive Zone Leads Directly to Brad Marchand’s Game-Winner (Video)

Most great goals are triggered by equally great, but often overlooked defensive plays. That was certainly the case Thursday night, when a textbook poke check by Zdeno Chara near the Bruins’ blue line in overtime led directly to Brad Marchand‘s game-winning goal. Marchand beating Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist five-hole will be what shows up in all the highlight package, but...
