The 6th Sens:
Well, I guess this puts an end to the 'Will Mika Zibanejad play center or wing?' speculation.
With today’s 3:00 pm deadline to submit the finalized rosters to the NHL’s offices, the Ottawa Senators have made some waves by sending ballyhooed prospect, phenom, fan favorite, Mika Zibanejad back to the American Hockey League.
Yes Binghamton, DJ Z-Bad, could be making an appearance at a small discotheque near you.
We’re all for sending guys messages, but it’s worth reminding fans that this is the time of year when asset management plays just as much a part of the decision-making process as a player’s performance in the small sample size known as the NHL preseason.
Of the players remaining from last season’s roster, only Kyle Turris (Ottawa’s leading scorer) had more points than Zibanejad’s 20 (7 goals and 13 assists). So it is somewhat interesting to see that 4 or 5 games worth of preseason hockey have undone what Zibanejad did over the course of 42 meaningful NH...

In their final preparations for the upcoming season the Ottawa Senators made a somewhat surprising move on Monday electing to send young center Mika Zibanejad down to AHL Binghamton.
Zibanejad the sixth overall pick in the 2011 draft by the Senators spent last season at the NHL level playing 42 games. In those 42 games he had seven goals with 13 assists while averaging just 13:34...
The Team 1200 has relaunched as TSN 1200 and who better to mark Ian Mendes' debut as a radio host in Ottawa than Senators GM Bryan Murray?
With the Sens having to submit their final roster to the NHL and a number of intriguing cuts to the parent roster (cough, cough, Mika Zibanejad, cough, cough), the timing of the interview could not be better.
If you would like to...
Apparently having a Norris Trophy on your mantle doesn't get you any further with Canadian internet providers.
Via the Huffington Post:
Ottawa Senators star defenceman Erik Karlsson might make $6.5 million a year and is probably one of the most gifted players in the NHL, but that doesn't mean that he can get good service from his internet service provider.
Gary Bettman spoke to TSN 1050 on a variety of subjects, including realignment, hybrid icing, and the state of the Ottawa Senators. Below, the transcribed Q/A on the relevant matters:
TSN: "Eugene Melnyk, the owner of the Ottawa Senators, has been quite public about the fact that his team loses money, and is a budget team / not a cap team for that reason. I'm curious...
Not once but twice Chris Phillips sends Kyle Turris crashing to the ice during one-on-one practice battles.
These are net-drive drills with the forwards demanding space in the crease and the defencemen yielding none.
Now Turris is no slouch as a player. As the Senators No. 2 centre Turris and his new linemates Clarke MacArthur and Cory Conacher could cash in big time if top centre...
Kessel deal is 8 years, aprox $8 mil per. Believed to include ltd no-trade. It's not complete..not signed, but announcement expected today.

With the Kessel signing now official, we have ourselves a benchmark for determining where we could be next year when Bobby Ryan, Ottawa’s new goal scoring winger enters the final...
A few days ago I posted a piece from Gare Joyce of Sportsnet on Bobby Ryan of the Ottawa Senators.
Last night, Sportsnet ran a special with Chris Simpson sitting down with Ryan to discuss his past.
You can watch it below... Continue reading "Video- Talking With Bobby Ryan"
Making one of his regular reports on TSN Radio, Darren Dreger hit on an important issue that's been a hot button issue of late - the outlook on the Ottawa Senators' financial situation.
When asked about Ottawa's situation and whether today's decision to demote Mika Zibanejad to Binghamton was financially driven, Dreger said:
“Yeah, it is a real tough...
Hard to really put into words what's developed in Ottawa over the last twenty minutes.
According to reports from all over (SensProspects and SteffeG were early on this one on Twitter), Mika Zibanejad -- thought to be an absolute roster-lock -- was cut from the team and sent to AHL Binghamton.
The move, along with the decision to waive Jim O'Brien and presumably play...
One sure way to know life has changed dramatically for Stéphane Da Costa?
The native of Paris was answering questions Tuesday in his native French as well as in English after he completed practice at Canadian Tire Centre as part of the 22-player Ottawa Senators opening night roster.
For most of the past two seasons Da Costa has been in Binghamton N.Y. where well there wasn’t...
NHL.com has this video from yesterday's split squad game against the Ottawa Senators which was aired on Rogers Television. The two games seemed to be Islanders goal fests with a 5 - 2 win in Barrie and a 4 - 1 win in Ottawa. Okposo, Sunstrom (2), Tavares, Johnson, Strome, Pulock, Nelson, Wemore - Nine goals total.
But what concerns me is a Tweet from Art Staple "Update...
