Auburn plants new oak trees at Toomer's Corner

By Andrew Holleran Toomer’s Corner has some new trees.  On Saturday, Auburn planted two new 35-foot live oak trees in Samford Park. The oaks were chosen last June by the Tigers from a 9,000-tree grove in South Carolina. Yankees to A-Rod: Sue us for milestone bonuses

By Larry Brown Now that the New York Yankees have regained the upper hand with Alex Rodriguez, they are feeling pretty confident in their dealings with the former MVP. They even told the 3B/DH to “try them” in so many words. A-Rod met with the Yankees last week to apologize profusely for all his conflicts with them and MLB, which stemmed from his involvement in the Biogenesis...

Larry Brown becomes a more compelling figure as he ages

Over the past week, as you know, two of college basketball’s greatest coaches died. Dean Smith was 83, Jerry Tarkanian 84. Smith retired in his late 60s, and Tark made one last NCAA tournament appearance at age 70. Coaching 19-year-olds is generally not a senior citizen’s profession. Bill Snyder is the exception that proves the rule in college football. In hoops, Lute Olson...

Remembering Mitch Richmond's 1995 All-Star Game MVP

Before I get into the greatness of Mitch “The Rock” Richmond, let’s make a few quick points regarding to the 1995 NBA All-Star Game. The 1995 NBA All-Star Game uniforms are some of the finest pieces of work ever worn by NBA All-Stars. Those absurd purples, oranges and teals gave designers confidence to go all-out with the teal in the 1996 mid-season classic. The ’96 uniforms...
