Billy Joe Saunders Eyes The Eubank Jr. Rematch – ‘We Will Settle Our Differences’
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Billy Joe Saunders says a match with Chris Eubank Jr. will likely happen.

The two boxers faced each other once in 2014. Saunders won a split decision, giving Eubank the first career loss. Since then, a rematch has been talked about. However, both fighters went their separate ways. Saunders has not boxed since losing to Canelo Alvarez in 2021. He was in the fight, only to get hit with a right uppercut to his eye socket that broke.

Saunders retired hurt as the towel came in from the corner. After the fight, Saunders admitted he had a lucky escape, as he could have lost his vision. Since then, he has teased a return, stating it would only be for the biggest fights. A Eubank rematch would sell in the UK. Eubank is coming off a big win over Liam Smith last year to avenge his loss in the first bout.

His decision to team up with Terence Crawford’s trainer, Brian McIntyre, paid off as he stopped Smith. However, he cannot secure himself a fight. Eubank is currently a free agent as he ponders his next move. At the same time, Saunders is a free agent. Saunders felt a fight with Eubank was inevitable.

Saunders On Eubank

“Everyone knows it’s going to be me and Eubank. Eubank knows that he’s going to end up fighting me. I know if I come back, I’m going to end up fighting him. We will settle our differences in the ring, rather than on Instagram or in interviews,” Saunders said

Nevertheless, Saunders has been teasing a return for some time. He announced that he would be fighting last December. That never materialized, with suggestions the boxer is struggling to take the weight off. Saunders is known for ballooning up in between camps.

Eubank Jr., meanwhile, lives the life outside of boxing. That would make Eubank Jr. a potential favorite. However, he is facing problems with inactivity, as he cannot secure himself a fight. But if Eubank can align himself with a promoter, there are fights out there for him. Ben Shalom, from BOXXER, talked up Eubank Jr., hinting at a possible working relationship.

“I think Chris, in a similar way [to Smith], is at the latter end of his career, he wants the very biggest fights. Let’s see what he decides to do. We’ve worked with him four or five times through Wasserman, I think every promoter would be excited to work with Chris Eubank Jr. t was only a few days ago that news was announced or released and we will see what happens, and these days the boxing landscape’s crazy there are so many opportunities, never mind in the U.K. Everywhere. There’s not many pay-per-view stars in the U.K. and Chris Eubank Jr. is probably in the top four or five,” Shalom stated
