Adrien Broner improved to 24-0 with a 5th-round TKO of Vicente Escobedo on Saturday night in Cincinnati, but it’s more than his win that has people talking.

The Cincinnati native toyed with the crowd, TV audience, media, and possibly his loved ones with a postfight prank. Broner interrupted his interview with HBO’s Max Kellerman to get down on one knee and fake like he were proposing to his girlfriend. Instead, Broner asked his prized lady, Arie Nicole, to brush his hair. She may have been in on the joke because she didn’t seem to freak out after being asked to brush his hair. She also sent the following tweet after the fight:

Everybody taking the brush thing seriously!! Geesh we only 21 n 22 can we b young n love for a min lol

Broner stirred up another controversy when he failed to make weight for the fight. Broner weighed in at 133.5 pounds on Friday — 3.5 pounds more than the 130-pound junior lightweight limit. He was stripped of his WBC title because of the failure to make weight, and then he weighed in 143.5 the day of the fight, which was more than the 140-pound limit he and Escobedo agreed to for the fight (fighters typically put on more weight after the weigh-in). After paying Escobedo a fee for being overweight, the fight proceeded, and Broner won.

Broner announced his intention to permanently move up in weight class after the fight. If anyone were following his Twitter feed closely in the week leading up to the fight, they would have suspected something were up when he tweeted pictures of Twix and Twinkies.

The 22-year-old fighter invited further controversy by wearing a “Free Money May” T-shirt into the ring (seen above) — a nod to undefeated champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., who’s serving a jail sentence for domestic violence.

Can’t say any of this surprises me; this is the same guy who appeared to live-tweet a sex session with his girlfriend.
