During his playing career former big-league pitcher Pascual Perez was known as one of the most colorful characters in the game. During an 11-season career with four teams, Perez won 67 games and held a 3.44 ERA, mostly as a starter. His last season came in 1991 with the New York Yankees. On Thursday, it was reported by two Spanish-language newspapers based in the Dominican Republic that Perez was murdered in his own home during a robbery attempt. This news was later confirmed by the official Twitter account of the Montreal Expos. Among Perez's exploits were his eephus pitch (a slow, junk ball akin to what Red Sox fans saw from Vicente Padilla during the 2012 season), checking baserunners by bending over and peering through his legs and his generally flamboyant personality on the hill. He also once missed a start because he couldn't find Atlanta Fulton-County Stadium -- despite the fact that it was his third home start for the Braves. However, Perez also had a dark side, as he was once arrested for cocaine possession in the Dominican, and a drug suspension by Major League Baseball effectively ended his career.
