I can’t believe we are talking about 2016 recruits having an offer from Kentucky, but John Calipari has offered 2016 point-forward Jayson Tatum from St. Louis. The 6’6” wing player is the only prospect in the 2016 class to have an offer from Kentucky, and there is only one guy in the 2015 class (Skal Labissiere) has a confirmed offer from Kentucky.
Calipari checked out Tatum in last weekend’s Nike Elite Youth Basketball League session in Hampton, Virginia. Tatum is believed to be one of the best players in the 2016 class. The class rankings for 2016 have not been evaluated and released, so I can’t give you an exact number of where he would rank just yet.
For those of you who remember Billy Gillispie’s days in Lexington, you may remember he offered a high school freshman from California a scholarship. For John Calipari to do this, Tatum has to have some serious upside. Tatum already has a ton of offers from high major schools like Kansas, Florida, Memphis, Missouri, Marquette, and Illinois. Billy Gillispie’s high school freshman ended up at Sonoma State, I don’t have the hunch that same fate will happen to Tatum.

Rick Pitnio and John Calipari eating dinner at the same restaurant in Lexington and posing for pictures together probably isn’t something you expected to see or hear about tonight, but it happened.

Even though these kids haven’t finished their freshman year of high school yet, the 2016 class is really getting some attention. The buzz started when John Calipari offered 2016 forward Jayson Tatum of St. Louis. I’ve always heard John Calipari does not like to extend offers to players so young. In the past week, he offered Tatum, and now he’s given yet another offer to a 2016...
