PLAYERS: Bill Self
TEAMS: Kansas Jayhawks
It's been nine years since Roy Williams left Kansas, and he knows the Jayhawks and their fans have gotten over him. No matter how much time passes, he'll never be able to say the same. Williams would rather top-seeded North Carolina (32-5) face almost anyone but his ''second-favorite'' team Sunday, a trip to the Final Four on the line. None of the players who played for him are still at Kansas, no one on the Jayhawks staff has ties to Williams and coach Bill Self is building his own legacy in Lawrence. For Williams, however, Kansas (31-6) will always be personal. Williams says he tried to ''give everything'' to Kansas for 15 years, and will always have fond memories of his time with the Jayhawks.

Self's triangle-and-2 defense helps Kansas win

ST. LOUIS It was as if somebody had reached over and put dad-gum gum in Roy Williams' hair. Sometimes in Bracketville, it comes down to a tweak. At the 11:52 mark of the second half of the NCAA tournament's Midwest Regional final, North Carolina hit the under-12-minute media timeout with 61 points. Over the previous eight minutes, they'd scored 14 points. In the eight...

Bill Self Informing His Players They’re “Taking A Leak” After Media

The Kansas Jayhawks had just wrapped up a 60-57 victory over N.C. State last night so of course the TBS cameras wanted into Bill Self’s lockerroom to get the post-game speech. Congratulations, boys. Blah, blah, blah. Oh, and then Bill reminds certain players that they’ll be “taking a leak” after media. Can’t say we knew college basketball players were subjected to random...

Bill Self wraps up post game speech with "you guys got to go take a leak"

I fully expect @TheBigLead to have Bill Self's "you guys gotta go take a leak" video up by tomorrow morning. That was TV history. — Seth Davis (@SethDavisHoops) March 24, 2012 Can we get a mention since we beat @thebiglead Seth? After a squeaker win versus NC state, Kansas was kind enough to let the TBS post game show into the locker room for Bill Self'...

KU's Self succeeds in his own way

North Carolina guard Stilman White was answering a question Saturday . . . about exactly what I do not remember. It does not matter, not really. What matters is he was doing so badly, as is to be expected for a freshman thrust into a starting role and all that entails because of an injury. And by badly, I mean it was impossible to get a feel for the kid. It was into this moment...

Report Card: No. 11 NC State vs. No. 2 Kansas

N.C. State came oh-so-close to advancing to an Elite 8 matchup with its arch rival but fell short in a 60-57 loss to Kansas on Friday in the NCAA Tournament. The Wolfpack didn't shoot well, it was in foul trouble, and it found itself down by nine points with 5:40 left, but was within a point and a chance to win it with less than 15 seconds remaining. But some poor late-game...

The making of a masterpiece

This was supposed to be it, the year Kansas entered its first true rebuilding phase of the Bill Self Era, and the Jayhawks came back down to Earth. The media knew it. Even the fans knew it. But Sunday night, they cut down the nets in St. Louis all the same, reserving a spot at the table in New Orleans and putting yet another stamp on what has been a remarkable year.

Back to the Final Four

ST. LOUIS – For the Kansas Jayhawks, this was supposed to be a down year, a rebuilding year. However, after losing four starters from last year’s ballclub, Head Coach Bill Self and the boys are headed back to the Final Four for the fourteenth time in the school’s rich history, after knocking out North Carolina 80-67.

Jayhawks have faith

Flash back to April 5, the night at the Alamodome in San Antonio when Kansas battled Roy Williams’ North Carolina Tar Heels in the Final Four. Sometime before the game in the locker room, KU coach Bill Self gave each player an inspirational quote by Thomas Carruthers.

The Morning After – March 26, 2012 edition

It’s another Manic Monday. So, the Final Four is set. Congratulations to Kentucky, Louisville, Kansas and Ohio State. The establishment once again reigns in the NCAA, as a SEC, B1G, Big East and a Big 12 team asserted their claim. Kentucky is filled with boatloads of talent, which Cal will reload, and reload he will until the NBA pries him away. Standing in his way is a familiar...
